About 30 years ago, I had a chance to go around the new course as well as the old road racing course. Our German business manager had been a race driver before getting into the business sector. We were in the vicinity with four of us in the car so he stopped and put about 80 psi of air in the tires. He paid the fee to get on the track and took us AT SPEED around both courses. Needless to say, it was an experience. One of the guys in the back seat got car sick and we had to pull over after we got off the track. As I recall it, the most hairy part of the old course was a fairly vertical banked hairpin turn that we took at a high rate of speed.

I'm fascinated with the track. I've been around it probably 20 times via youtube videos. If I ever get to Germany (highly doubtful) I would do a 'taxi' ride around the Ring in a Porsche GT3, McLaren, or something similar. That would be something special.
I love it, but also never been there.
I was fascinated by it, 15 years ago. Something about that track (Nordschleife) made me fall in love.
Of course, my only contact with it was by video games and videos.
After more than 15k miles on racing sims and a few thousands videos, i think i am ready for my first real lap.
If i had to choose the car, it would be something with a great balance and not so much power.
My second favorite track would be Mount Panorama Bathurst.

Yes, I love the long history of the place. Love the trees and the natural flow. It looks amazing.
My wife said she'd love to gift me a ride in a 'Ring Taxi someday but I'm a terrible passenger and I'd be worried about blowing a tire or hitting a wall. I'd love to drive around it myself though.
Shame there doesn't seem to be anything left of the original southern loop to explore.

Agree it is a shame how some parts seem deteriorated.

Went on a European vaca with my father maybe 20-30 years ago. Had an Audi rental with probably an early CVT transmission. Got a ticket for one lap, probably about $10 back then. Cars were wizzing by but was still enjoyable. Probably no so much for my father who was yelling to slow down everytime he got thrown against the door.

I've ridden it and driven it. It's a cool track. But it's also obvious why they built the GP track, and discontinued use of the old north loop from competition for the truly fast racing classes.
As a kid I was into drag racing. Then I matured and discovered tracks such as Talladega etc and started shifting my focus to track racing. Quite by accident, when YouTube was young, I saw a clip of Sabine Schmitz driving the Ringtaxi. I had never heard of the Nurburgring but as videos of it started showing up more and more I was hooked. Never been there but I understand the fascination with it by its enthusiasts.
Then Jeremy Clarkson tackled the ring in a diesel Jaguar with Sabine as his teacher. Exposed the ring to a lot of people via Top Gear.
Times change, but the track endures....

No hope of me ever getting there, but when I got my Volvo 850 I searched the net for info, and there are lot of Youtube videos of them on the Nurburgring. One of the best was an onboard in a 460hp Evo - the guys wearing helmets, roll cage, full harness belts, the works. They are giving the Evo a good workout...and then a Volvo 850 goes past them. They try to keep up with the Volvo when it gets out of shape in a corner, they are laughing about that, and then another Volvo 850 goes past them ! There are wannabes, and then there are serious drivers like Sabine going very fast in boring cars.

All under supervision from 'Ring instructors. Overall I've done 8 laps. I have also had an informal 'taxi' ride with a DTM driver who had also raced the 24h of Nürburgring; that was a fun lap in a BMW X6M!
However, the reason I quote the "bucket list" thing above is because on the second of these events there was another guy there who had a terminal illness. He had published his bucket list online, which included driving the 'Ring, and the organisers of this event spotted it and invited him along. He was a real car enthusiast and was totally blown away that he'd got the chance to drive the 'Ring in an M3. He passed away just weeks later.
