You can outright drink most of your (virgin) motor oils and besides a wicked diarrhea (same applies if you drink any oil, including cooking oil) and pretty much nothing will happen. It's all in the msds.

Antifreeze, now, that stuff'll kill you (and your pets! don't leave it around) in a few mouthfuls. Half a cup'll kill the average full-grown man.

Any oil that is buring because it dripped onto the hot exhaust semlls bad but Royal Purple doing it is down right nasty. Had my oil changed once and the tech forgot to tighten the drain plug fully so I had a small leak. Was dripping onto the exhaust. Not enough to smoke a lot and let me know exactly what it was but enough to smell. Smelled like the wiring in the vehicle was on fire is the closest I can come to what it smelled like. Lord it was horrendous.I never would have equated that odor with the oil burning. PHEW!

I put in a 5.28qt jug of MC 5-20 blend from AZ into my wife's MKX after a run of Mobil Clean 5K and it totally smelled like I had just walked into Kentucky Fried Chicken. It's never happened again and I can't explain it, but that weekend I just had to go eat some KFC!

Esso XD3 0w30 and 0w40 - slightly sweet smelling I thought (the PAO?)

Hmmm..I thought it smelled kind of sweet. Where did you find a new car seat made of vinyl??!!

Do you think the sales staff at the dealership will give me weird looks if I smell the seat in the showroom? (I'll make sure no one is actually sitting there..)

NOTHING beats the Eaton/Magnuson supercharger oil for putrid, all-out STINK (especially the used stuff).

It's instant, reflexive,

-inducing foulness (and that, or maybe day old cow pies, is the closest I can get to describing the stench)!!

I opened a bottle of PYB 5W-30 and it smelled like rotten eggs... I didn't mean to smell it, the breeze carried it straight up the nostrils and I almost puked. Had to hold my breath when pouring it. Ever since then, I started smelling all the oil I bought.

Motul 7100 smells like strawberry shampoo. It's the POE that smells sweet. Best way to tell if your oil has lots of POE.

My father had a certain type of gun cleaning oil when I was a kid. It was so rancid you couldn't stand the smell without gagging. IIRC it was an oil marketed by Remington.

Off topic, but thought I would share.

The POEs used in motor oils have no odor.
