Are there any high mileage synthetic oils?

My 2006 Nissan Murano with 141,000 miles on it has started using 1/2 to 1 quarts of oil every 2,000 miles. I had been using Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 oil.

I would be digging a bit deeper as to why it's using that much oil , I don't think a high mileage type oil is going to help you .

Have you had the engine checked for possible causes for the oil use ?

Mobil 1 High Mileage is a great synthetic oil to use.

You might want to check your PCV system to see if that may be the cause of your oil consumption.

That's a lot of oil to just suddenly start consuming. I agree with synthetic_crazy -- check the PCV system.

Surprised it wasn't using that since brand new. I've seen them use tons of oil brand new..

But PCV needs checked.

And if that don't fix it.. Either keep topping off, or go MaxLife HM..

Yep, pcv valve and at a minimum start topping off with Valvoline Maxlife. I'm thinking 5w30 red bottle.

While you are at it, replace the breather filter.
Also, check that the PCV system plumbing is clean/clear and intact (not leaking).

I have my own reasons.

I don't see a problem with that thread. You did some cleaning before going with Maxlife, then you found junk in the oil filter indicating that the oil was suspending contaminants and depositing them in the filter, and you don't want to use it anymore? Am I missing something?

Valvoline MAXX LIFE FULL SYNTHETIC, Thats if you can find it at a good price

In my area its like 11$ a QUART so I cant buy it.

so Mobil 1 High Mileage

IMO

Unfortunately the only two available are Mobil 1 High Mileage and Maxlife synthetic. The good news is both of these are great products.

Royal Purple is releasing a HM soon.

Too bad there's no Sopus HM syn, and no Castrol Edge synthetic either

Exactly, not to mention he was using old SL version. SN oils are held to a higher standard and the Maxlife in both varieties exceeds DEXOS1

On the additives forums, I have heard that some products really do work to help high mileage oil consumption. Liqui Moly is the first I can think of.

Still, I prefer to just seek out Synthetic Valvoline Maxlife because I still don't like the idea of putting additives in engine oil, unless it is time to use leak detection dye.

But replace your PCV valve, and use one from a dealer, because not all PCV valves are as accurately calibrated as the OEM unit.
