Any hard hats that don’t sit WAY above your head?

I seldom need a hard hat, but when I do I look ridiculous. I have an old one I got from work, but I’ve also tried on a couple other models, and they all sit so high up. It looks comical. I feel like everyone else who wears one doesn’t have this problem. I get that there needs to be an air gap above the straps… that’s where the safety cushion exists. I have yet to find a model with adjustable suspension, only adjustable brow pad and tightening strap. My head isn’t large fwiw. Normal sized I’d say haha.

Same problem here. Gotta find an adjustable suspension hat. I've also found that flipping the suspension over on some models can set the hat lower, but it depends on the brand. I have a Dynamic right now and its not to bad as it is.

That space between the inner suspension and the shell is necessary for protection. Should something strike the hat the blow won't immediately go to your head.

Do you need a hard hat? Will a bump cap suffice? If so I use this one at work and it is r4eally light and not at all bulky

Second the bump cap. I have one and it works well in pretty much any of my hats. It is not as safe as a hard hat, but I very rarely need to wear PPE and I don't really need a hard hat even when PPE is necessary.

I've seen people put a size XL basket in a M or L shell of those universally cheezy MSA hats to get a more flush appearance. This of course defeats most of the safety features.

The better hard hats have options as to where the webbing snaps into the outer shell - high vs. low. I also prefer the kind that has an adjustment knob on the back.

Increasing so however, we are having to provide our guys with an even goofier hard hat; it has a really high crown and a chin strap to resist it falling off. The shell also has some weird ventilation things going on as well. More and more jobsites are requiring these.

Look up safety helmets on Amazon. The better looking ones use a chin strap if that bothers you.

Yes, the full brim hats keep people from looking like pin heads.

Full brims also offer a little more protection. I nicked my (frozen) ear on the corner of a plastic-cardboard sign hanging from a scaffold. Sign was to remind me to be safe, LOL. Man was I not impressed! A brim might have protected it.

When I was with the aviation wing ground crew wore these. Good for protecting your grape while working under a/c. Fit close to the head, comfortable. Ear muffs detachable.

These are what we have. Awesome in sun or rain.

There’s definitely a gap, but I also have a big head too. I think a lot of it depends on skull size.
