I have an older Moore O Matic xx150 garage door opener. The nylon gear split leaving the door stuck in the open position. I ordered the gear and threw it in, that was easy enough. Prior to the install I pinned the chain part trolley so it wouldn't move, and measured the chain tensioner, which is a wheel the chain rides around so there would be little to no adjustment when it went back together, so I thought. Long story short when the door goes down, it travels too far, and stops the motor when it reaches the floor. I have to hit the button on the opener to stop it or it will bind. The down adjustment doesn't have enough adjustment to make the correction. I opened the door manually, and moved the trolley via the chain sprocket on the motor closer to the motor opening the door a bit more hoping the door would travel down less. That didn't work.

My question is should I disconnect the trolley, lower the door manually, remove the chain from the drive gear and move the chain part of the trolley to the trolley on the lift arm on the door, then connect it to the chain trolley? Once connected hope the door opens instead of trying to shove itself into the floor? It is an older unit and I was unsuccessful in finding a manual for this xx150 model, info is available on a newer unit. The problem wasn't addressed in that manual.

I have a few ideas but would rather hear from a pro before I waste a lot of time with it.

Thanks!

Thanks. I ended up ordering a replacement. I checked it this morning, and it appears that the electronics that control the up and down must have been damaged by the broken gear getting jammed up in the works. It had nothing to do with the position of the chain. I ordered a replacement unit. No one local sells garage door opener extension kits, I have an 8' custom garage door. I can't complain I got 19 years out of this one.

I am not a pro but when my Craftsman became real noisy I bought a Simmer Garage Opener it is Made in Germany and comes with life time warranty. It is a Direct Drive and virtually no noise, about only thing you hear is rumble of rollers and sheet metal. It also has Homelink. Home Depot and Lowe's carry them. I took an afternoon to install.
