any fathers who didn't want children here?

None of our 4 kids were planned...but all are wanted. All homebirthed and homeschooled - I took 2 weeks holiday when each was born. My life has certainly changed from the selfish young man I was 30 years ago.

The main idea is to help parents and fathers bond with their children without having to worry about work. It seems crazy to me that in the U.S. this isn't done as well.

It isn't the function of government to help parents bond with a child (at least not in the U.S. at tax payers expense.....yet).
It seems crazy to me that a government would PAY a father to stay home to care for the children when the mother is present.

And family wasn't as important to the previous generations of fathers that worked hard to keep food on the table? I would say that fathers have actually DEGRADED in quality in the last few decades....regardless of the actions of the FMLA and such.

Well what's the point of government if it doesn't help you raise a happy healthy family? I have to be employed to be able to qualify as well and I've paid more than enough taxes to cover $400 for many years, let alone 37 weeks.
Without benefits like this you have lots of working mothers that have to return to work within a couple weeks of having a child, which is pretty sad in many ways...

Lock time due to post containing religion and politics. I have removed some post that broke the rules.
