OP - trying to say this to be helpful and keep you safe. The questions you ask lead me to conclude you don't have enough experience to do much more that checking breakers and GFI. I know people need to learn somewhere but cannot burn down the house in the process. The next time you need to do some home electrical work either hire an electrician or get someone experienced to show you the ropes.

Thanks again all. It ended up being a GFCI and that was hidden!!! But all is good now.

Good you found it, basements require GFCI protection IAW code.

You may forget by next time - get everything working, trip it, and mark those that die - UP Bth GFCI for instance - each one!

If I'm not mistaken, GFCIs often come with extra stickers that say something like "GFCI protected" that you can put on downstream outlets.

I realize that. But he was about to start taking outlets apart.
