Hello, and do any of you wonderful folks here remember any good/great dynasties? I am old enough to remember the EDMONTON OILERS(think I spelled Edmonton right if not please correct me). I remember when the Patriots won their 4 Super Bowls also and the 49'ers winning 4 in the 80's.

Well, since you asked:

BOOMER SOONER

The University of Oklahoma holds the NCAA record for most consecutive wins by a major college program at 47-straight. The streak spanned five seasons from 1953-57. Oklahoma lost to Notre Dame, 28-21, in the 1953 season opener and tied Pittsburgh, 7-7, the next week. The streak began with a 19-14 win against archrival Texas in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Oct. 10, 1953.

Oklahoma rolled through the rest of the 1953 season and capped a 9-1-1 campaign with a 7-0 shutout of Maryland in the Orange Bowl in Miami.

The Sooners went 10-0 in 1954 and 11-0 in 1955. The 30th-straight win came against Maryland, again in the Orange Bowl, on January 1, 1956, and the Sooners claimed their second National Championship.

OU won its 35th consecutive game with a 40-0 rout of Notre Dame in South Bend on Oct. 27, 1956. Oklahoma finished the season a perfect 10-0 with the streak at 40 games. The Sooners were again voted National Champions.

On Nov. 9, 1957, in Columbia, Mo., Oklahoma won its 47th-consecutive game with a 39-14 victory against the Missouri Tigers. The streak came to an end on Nov. 16, 1957, when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish claimed a 7-0 victory at Owen Field in Norman. The Sooners won the remainder of their games in 1957 and finished with a 48-21 victory against Duke in the Orange Bowl to post a 10-1 record.

Oklahoma's 47-game winning streak is considered one of the greatest feats in major college football history. Amazingly, head coach Bud Wilkinson also led Oklahoma on a 31-game winning streak from 1948-50. That streak ranks eighth on the NCAA's all-time major college football winning streak list.

Since World War I, there have been only four streaks of more than 30 wins in major college football. OU owns two of the four. Toledo won 35 in a row from 1969-71 and the Miami Hurricanes won 34-straight from 2000-02.

I remember when the University of San Francisco had an incredible basketball team. A buddy of mine lived in Phelan Hall right across from the great Bill Cartwright.

But in 1982 the USF team was broght down in a terrible scandal when one of the team assaulted a woman in the same dormitory, and the campus security and powerful alumni tried to threaten/bully her into not pressing charges. Father LoSchiavo pulled the plug on the basketball program. USF's basketball program was revived after several years, but never recovered.

Yeah, I remember the bulls winning 3 in a row twice well, as well as the PITTSBURGH PENGUINS winning back to back in 91' and 92'. Johnny, wander who has the NCAA football all time winning record; have to research this.

In the world stage, no one was/is better than Brazil and Pele in World Cup run from 1958 till 1970, they won 3 out of 4 consecutive meets.

Well, at the end of the 2009 season, it was:

1. Michigan: 877-304-38
2. Texas: 845-321-34
3. Notre Dame: 837-291-42
4. Nebraska: 827-341-41
5. Ohio State: 819-308-53
6. Alabama: 813-316-43
7. Penn State 812-351-43
8. Oklahoma: 796-305-53
9. Tennessee: 783-333-55
10. USC: 774-307-54

Ferrari and Schumacher from 2000 to 2004 is pretty impressive, F1 racing being what it is and the points structure back then.
Lance Armstrong's run in the tour de france, I suspect he had some medical help, or somehow in his recovery from cancer he managed to build himself up with the prescribed steroids. In any case I'm sure lots of guys where cheating as much as they could in an effort to beat him so in any case its quite an achievement.

I guess we would also have to consider 5 NASCAR Championships in a row for Jimmie Johnson. Would not be surprised to see him get number 6 this year.

I would have to say; even though I dont remember it and was not even born; but Richard "the king" Petty winning 27 out of what 48 or so races in one season, with winning 10 consecutive pretty good. Anyone know how many consecutive races he won back then in I believe it was 67'

thanks in advance

+1. We enjoyed the run, watched nearly every game we could for a decade.

"Paxson for 3..."
MJ's head's up quick 2-point lay-up with about 40 seconds remaining set the stage for that win. Wish I could find a vid with the Chicago announcers calling that shot, those guys went nuts! A great sports memory indeed.

The Bulls are fun to watch this year as well. It's nice to watch a team that can & does win.
