We have a purebred lab (female) that we bought in 2005 from an apparently reputable breeder. This breeder (Say breeder X) had mostly female dogs that made use of a another big Male Labrador stud (Say breeder Y) in the area we were living then, i guess for donations of "fatherly substance" if you know what I mean.
I just came across her pedigree certificate this evening and decided to google some of the ancestors on the father's line (through Breeder Y).
The thing that I am concerned about is that the grandfather is listed on the pedigree of registration. WHen I googled to Breeder Y's page, that dog is shown to have died in 1997.
On same breeder's website, the father is said to have been born in 2002. The grandfather would have been 18 years by then.
The other thing it could be is that the Breeder Y doubled up with names for two generations. Highly unlikely.
To me it appears that Breeder X (maternal line) picked the paternal line for the pedigree certificate out of thin air.
If a dog has the prefixes "Aust Ch [R]" in front of his name vs just "Aust Ch" (for australian champion) could it be two different dogs even if the subsequent names were the same?
Is it possible that the grandfather dog had his "mojo" frozen and used in perpetuity to have the father spring from his loins in 2002?
