no difference that you’ll notice unless you’re really using your brakes hard they’ll both stop you just fine and last about the same amount of miles. the more expensive ones might, and that’s a big might, last a bit longer somewhere the roads get salted a lot.

As for the difference, I believe the fzn is a bit more of a rust protector, that’s what they told me a while back when I asked on the phone. I got the cheaper model you have listed I believe and they’ve held up well for over a year on a Subaru in the northwest. Sorry for the multiple posts, accidentally hit the post button.

Get the Element3 rotors that end in -FZN. I can vouch for their coating. The Element3 coating is good and will last at least 2 years :)

I currently have the specialty performance Rotors all around on my G37, they have a black coating. No problems or issues to report, no do I expect any. the Coating still looks good but its only been a few months.

The FZN rotors are fully "coated" with some "Geomet" material. I don't know the specifics behind this but I use these rotors with no complaints. The other rotors are likely just "painted" on the hat.

Thanks for all the replies it’s a lot of good information it looks like all I really need is just the coted E3 rotors for daily driving, even though I’m in Florida the once or twice a year drive on the beach maybe the coating will help.

I ordered these on 7/8/20 from RA and these shipped out of a parts authority warehouse on 7/9/20. Zoom in and look at the label. I think these are just white box rotors that the warehouse slaps a label onto…when someone orders.

I would disagree...if anything, these pictures tell me they are indeed different.

The boxes appear to be of a different material (different color)
The Performance rotors call out a patent - shows there is at least some difference inside the box
"Made in China" called out on performance rotors
There is clearly a white alternative label under the main Raybestos label on the "specialty" rotors that doesn't appear on the performance rotors

I have noticed the same thing from RA on other brake items ........if you still have it would be interesting to try and peel back the sticker carefully to see what the one below it shows

When working on relatives cars on the cheap I get "close out" items or "private label " to save them every penny possible sometimes the brands that show up range from Gates belts Re- branded in the NAPA box to a Dorman product in a plain white box white a printed label very similar and a fresh date

Anyone know who the Big auto makers get their rotors from? also Does anyone besides me wish they splurge a buck or two and put some anti seize on the back of them, I’ve had some that were shall we say less than easy to get off.

The patent is just on the S-Grooves which not all Specialty rotors come with, when I compared my OEM rotors to the specialty ones they pretty much were an exact copy. The raw casting surfaces were rougher but that's all I could see by eye. You would need an XRF gun to see if there are any metallurgical differences

Whaaat? Ya not gonna pay $8 extra for the word 'performance' in rotor description?
Look at the part numbers, same number, may have diff coating thus FZN.
Element3 is more than good for a daily driver even if one brakes hard once in a while.

Click the info button and it will show you the difference with pictures and specs.

I have nothing to add here, other than to say I always use Raybestos rotors and Bosch pads on my Hyundai's /KIAs. Excellent price/performance ratio. Hold up a long time and quiet as a church mouse.
