I just bought a 2012 V6 Accord today. I bought it because of Honda and the Accords history of quality and reliability. I'm truly hoping it is a trouble free car. How do you guys like yours and does this Accord have any known problems? I seem to remember reading the the rotors can warp easy. Thanks!

I hope the 2012 models are a lot better than our 2008. Compared to our 2002, the 2008 V6 is a rattle trap. No issues with the rotors, but the variable cylinder management drives me nuts. Oil consumption & fouled plugs come along with the gas savings.

I have 48k on my 2010. No issues. My brakes were good, changing them tomorrow for the first time.

I really hope Honda gets the VCM business straightened out. I understand that some changes were made at the 2011 model to reduce or eliminate some of the problems. As much as I like the V-6 engine (granted, I have a non-VCM copy of it), I think the K24 is where it's at.

Best of luck with your new Accord. I'm sure you'll get many happy miles out of it.

IMO no need for 6cyl in a front wheel drive car.

The old 4 cyl accords are fantastic cars, VERY easy to work on and maintain. I never noticed the power difference.

Once you start getting into high HP, I prefer Rear wheel drive, I hate all the power/torque on the wheels that steer.

Had a 2008 EX-L V6 for 60K miles. Here is my summation:

Oil use: 1/2 QT per 8K miles. I added none between oil changes.
VCM: I found it only slightly intrusive and only occasionally.
Rattles: Rear deck and third brake light. Known problem with easy dealer fix. Once fixed, dead quiet.
Rear brake premature wear: Known problem and fixed with reformulation of pads. Seems to be a 2008-early 2010 problem. Honda did eventually pay for the problem.

Aside from the rattle fix and rear brakes, the car was dead reliable and comfortable. Sold it to get AWD Acura TL.

I could not tell at all when the VCM turns on and off. Is there a oil burning problem in these engines? Thanks!

Ha! I bought my '00 Accord V6 for the exact same reasons. Was I in for a surprise!

Honda is still riding on the reputation they have developed in the '80s and early '90s. But starting with late '90s and early 2000s, their quality and reliability has gone down. For your sake, I hope they're back on track again in 2012.

I think that, in general, Honda's quality and reliability is fine. At least if you believe Consumer Reports it is.

The early 2000's AT+V6 models are the rare exceptions. We used to have a 2001 Accord with the 4-cylinder, and it was rock solid for us.

I'm not just referring to the trans issues. Fit and finish was sub-par as well. I've discovered air leaks, water leaks, poorly fitted elements, etc. On top of that, Honda service had a hard time correcting it all.

I'm probably in the minority though. Once in a while you can find a lemon just about anywhere. I wish the OP all the best with his new car.

I have a 2010 Accord that get's very little usage, I keep it at my other house in Michigan. It has around 30k miles, no problems, it run's perfect. Doesn't consume any oil, the only time I added some was when it was still breaking in at 5k miles during a road trip to Canada.

Some say the seats are very uncomfortable, but I rented a 2011 Accord and the seats were just fine for my back.

The auto trans was very smooth.

Well day 2 it threw a rod...

Just kidding!

Super smooth and tight feeling ride. Seats have great support and contour and are as comfortable as my Volvo S40 and XC70 seats are. The seat in a lower trim Accord I test drove did not have any lumbar adjustment and was very uncomforable. My EX-L so far has been great.

I've found that with Asian seats in general (and I may have had some exceptions), you want to get the top-line seats. My Corolla and Camry both had manual cloth seats and it was hard to find a comfortable position in them...only because the adjustment increments are generally too gross for my taste. I sat in a lower-trim CR-V once with the manual cloth seats and felt the same way. One of the reasons I bought the EX-L was for the full power seat with lumbar adjustment. Leather is also a bonus; I can't stand cloth surfaces.

How do you like the Mobil 1 0w20 and the PP ow20 in your cars? Do you get used oil analysis? If so how did they turn out?

I like them both, but have not done any used oil analysis. Acura calls for 7,500 mile oil changes for the MDX, but I just do it every 5,000 miles. My wife drives it, and there's a lot of short-tripping with the kids and school and scouts and dance practice and church and, and, and, etc. We bought this from my parents, who bought it new. Dad always did 5,000 mile intervals also, and usually had the oil changed at Walmart (they're full-time RVers, so they have the oil changed at whatever facility is closest at the time). I've run Pennzoil Conventional 5w20, Pennzoil Ultra 5W-20, Mobil 1 0W-20, and Pennzoil Platinum 0w20 in the Acura, and all oils are pretty quiet in it, with the nod going to the Pennzoil Platinum 0w20 I think. As you probably know with your Accord, this V-6 is dead silent when running, and oil doesn't make much of a difference in how it feels or sounds. Looking in through the oil fill hole, the engine is spotless, and the aluminum surfaces are still bright silver. But because of the fact that this engine tends to not be as easy on oil as Honda's 4-cylinder engines have been, and because of the short trips, I plan to continue with synthetic oil in this car, and it'll probably continue to be Pennzoil Platinum 0w20. It currently has 80k miles on it.

I also do 5,000 mile intervals in the Honda, and I actually plan to start using Pennzoil Conventional 5w20 in it. I'm not getting the value out of the Mobil 1, and don't care to extend the intervals beyond 5,000 miles. I like changing oil too much to let it go 10,000 miles, or even until the maintenance minder tells me. Seriously. So I'll be using Pennzoil conventional 5W-20 in it starting with the next oil change I think. This car had dealer service for its whole life until I bought it (at 45,000 miles), and that was Valvoline All Climate (white bottle) at this particular dealer. This engine also is spotless inside, at least when looking through the oil fill hole. It currently has 58k miles on it.

We thoroughly enjoy both cars. This is the first time in a long time that we've been 100% satisfied with both vehicles in the garage.
