You can live with a woman and get much the same experience... And you don't need to get them shots. They can drive themselves to the doctor.

This is very true, and not mentioned enough. As they say, it's amazing what people can get used to. Cat odor is one of them. Our dog gets a weekly shampoo, and loves it. And being a Poodle mix, does not shed. (Try bathing a cat). We have had people come over, and after a while when he comes around they say, "I didn't know you had a dog!"

With a house cat they'll know before they sit down. ....

And that disgusting, "saliva bath" they are always giving themselves, has a "protein odor" all it's own. Imagine eating smelly fish in some type of disgusting "gravy", then licking yourself "clean". ...

Cats are so much cleaner "smelling" than dogs it ain't funny.

And you don't bath cats!

I add some pine pellets to the natural clay litter that knock down the urine odor.

Diesels stink,

"Hotrods" with OTB un-tuned garbage edlebrock carbs stink,

Dogs stink.

You don't give cats a bath you HAVE TO give dogs a bath.

But tweech hizzone ...

And I'll bet you wouldn't notice a beer [censored] in an elevator either.

True but getting rid of a troublesome woman is exponentially more expensive than getting rid of a troublesome cat!

To do this you really need to be a cat person. I have successfully tamed one feral Tom and had one failure. Feral Females are much easier. You do need to be a cat person and understand that you will get bit and scratched for awhile. Fixing Toms helps. Takes a month for all the hormones to go away though. He became a great cat, mostly outdoors hunting, it was always rats, mice, rabbits and squirrels. He would follow me around the yard like a dog, and during the day loved napping on my moms lap while she watched her soaps. When the weather was bad, he stayed in and slept on the foot of my bed, unless I had a cold in which case he needed to be beside me keeping an eye on me. If bad weather went on for a day or two he needed active play time, a small dock fishing reel and toy was perfect for him. If we were out and a dog wandered in the yard, it did not go well for the dog. Miss him, very loyal very loving cat that you wanted on YOUR side.

The other feral was a Max tom, I had him calming down where I could pet him and he would purr.. My wife at the time was a dog person and I told her to stay away from him. Well, she did not, and when he rolled over to show her his belly, she tried to rub it. Emergency room, stitches, antibiotics for her.
He was upset by it and before I could calm him down again he got killed. If she had just left him alone, I would have been able to get him fixed and litter trained and have had a great pet.

So, they make great pets if you can win their loyalty.

With a house cat they'll know before they sit down. Not to mention you are blessed with an animal that pee's and craps in the house. Cat urine smells like an Ammonia gas leak. There is no way around it. My wife would change out it's litter box every time it used it. It helped, but you could still smell it. And I don't care how much baking soda you use. That rich, smelly food they eat doesn't help matters much either.

I read from multiple websites now that the best diet for cats is raw meat with bones and organs included, like their diet in the wild.

https://feline-nutrition.org/nutrition/the-benefits-of-a-raw-diet-for-your-cat

They say that the raw meat diet cuts the stool sizes by half and also drastically reduces the odour. What diet, may I ask, did you guys give to your cats?

My 3 kids each had a cat as they grew up. One was a feral stray, the other two were from the local shelter. 3 separate litter boxes. I was ruthless about cleaning up, too. They were great low maintenance pets.

The bottom line was the house smelled no matter what, even with deodorizers and special air treatment machines.

In my biz cats are notorious for the worst smelling urine and feces. Dogs can't even get close to cat urine for staying power. Made to mark territory and good at it! And cats are the only animal I have ever seen pass feces from either end!

I have heard many folks tell me how "clean" their cats are, yet the animal was just digging in its own waste! Not to mention the litter tracked all over your house.

No cats for me...

Usually a variety of canned food. And it always had a bowl of whatever dry food at the same time to nibble on. Iams, etc.

It's interesting on the like/dislike of cats. Most psychology texts link the dislike for cats as a dislike for women. It is extremely rare for a woman to dislike cats. Not so rare for men. Almost without exception rapists and serial killers hate cats and have usually tortured and killed them as a hobby or precursor event(s) on the way to their actual crimes, usually starting during adolescence. I like pretty much all animals except for insects that interfere with my comfort. I have always had dogs/cats/birds/fish horses/rabbits etc etc around my whole life. Currently a couple cats and a dog. Told the wife when these last 3 expire no more pets. Time to retire and travel and just don't want the reponsibility any longer. As far as the OP. I would tread lightly and unless you are the only person in the household I wouldn't do it. A feral cat will usually only bond with a single individual and will not tolerate anyone else.

It's truth. high protein = smaller stools. Less smell.

Regarding the smell, what I do is buy a large bag of baking soda from the pool supply area at Walmart and liberally dump it in with the cat litter. Absorbs the odor plus I empty the litter box every time I see something in it.

They ruined my Mom's house and hardwood floors with their urine.
Her house still stinks today 4 years after the demise of kitty. Cat pee is nasty stuff.

My ENT Dr said cats were filthy animals. He said it would take at least 6 months of vacuuming and cleaning AFTER a cat is gone before
you could get the dander out of all the furniture and such. He said he many allergic reactions of people who purchased a house that had
cats by the previous owner(s). He said dogs were clean compared to cats.

The only cat I like is one that isn't breathing. AND for the record, I haven't raped anyone or murdered anyone. Well, at least not so far.

Sometimes I wonder if cats are possessed by evil spirits. Sounds like the cat described by OP has a few issues.....
