Any bets on where the gas will stop dropping?

+1
It's starting to slowly climb here.

Prices went up here at least a dime overnight. I got all my vehicles filled before it did go up though. I knew it wouldn't go under 3 bucks a gallon and stay there. Not going to happen.

Going up here too. All of the local gas stations around here are up a nickel to 7 or 8 cents overnight. I don't buy BP gas but they went up about 12 or 13 cents. I never saw gas here below $3.00.

Went up about 10 cents here overnight. It's odd that it would increase on a weekend. Usually Thursday's price stays the same until Monday around here. I went down to Napa today and saw that my local 7-11 has gone up to $3.19, it was about $3.09 yesterday. Marathon is $3.21 according to gas buddy. Sure is funny how when it goes down it is only 2 or maybe 3 cents every few days but when those who are in control jack the prices it goes up 10 or 15 cents or more in just one day...

It's summer travel season. Being clever the oil companies won't increase the price immediately as
summer travel season starts they delay it .

One very interesting thing I have also noticed..I have a Chase rewards card (widely held card by consumers) and the extra 4% off each gallon of gas started on July 1 and now just coincidentally the price at the pumps suddenly jumps at least a dime most places. I smell a rat.

Chase freedom in particular is 5%. Also, discover has 5% on gas started July 1 as well. Hmmmmm?

I had to go up to my office today for a meeting at 4:00. There are two gas stations close by, one is a Shell and the other is a Sunoco. On my way in to the office I noticed both stations had regular 87 at $3.19. My meeting lasted about 40 minutes. As I passed the same Shell and Sunoco when I was headed back home I noticed both stations had raised the price to $3.23. In less than 40 minutes the price went up 4 cents.

We bottomed out at 3.09 and, luckily, I purchased it before a multi-state trip on our Accord. Got 31.3 MPG on the trip too, which was nice.

While we were gone, it jumped to 3.29, back down to 3.25 yesterday. Looks like it is going to settle out at that price for a while. My parents, who were still in town, told me that the price jumped 8 cents in one afternoon and 13 cents total in just one day.

Prices in GA were actually WORSE than FL, which surprised me. In SC, prices were still running about the same before we left, between 3.09-3.13.

How low can it go?
Based upon current supply volume of crude as well as weakening world demand, with the deepening European recession and no strong recovery here, I'd say that $2.80 per gallon of unleaded regular is probable by the end of 2012.
Remember, too, that Chinese growth is weakening, since Chinese growth depends upon the economic health of its export host nations.
Manufacturing is actually returning to the US, as well.

I had to bring this thread back from the dead just to crow.
I paid $2.75 for unleaded regular today.
The bad news was that the '12 Accord would only take 10.3 gallons after 340 miles.
I made a good guess.
Were my forecasting powers really that good, I'd be spending only a couple of hours each week managing my portfolio, with no need for earned income, and the wife and I would now be on our way to our place in one of the more exclusive islands to dodge the coming bad weather.
Not sure whether we'd be in our Citation or flying commercial.
A factor I failed to mention in my original reply was the remarkable increase in North American production of crude stocks as well as natural gas.

Regular won't go under 3 bucks a gallon here. The lowest I've seen here is $3.04 so I predict a big jump befor Christmas.

If you're already seeing 3.04, then under three bucks should happen in the next two weeks.
Gasoline prices have reached their low point here each year sometime in January.
There may be a small demand blip around Christmas, with a small price increase, but winter isn't a big demand season in most of the country.

Well I certainly hope so. 3 bucks a gallon is no bargain by any means. Any drop in prices will be much welcomed by me.

I believe gasoline futures are trending slightly higher over the past couple of days. I would guess we'll bottom out the week after new years and then start trending upward through summer 2013.

Enjoy $3 per gallon gas while you can. The U.S. will no longer be the world's largest consumer of gasoline soon. There is another thread on here where a discussion about increasing demand in India and China. They are licensing new drivers there at prodigious rates. As overall world demand increases so will prices. I expect that we will be paying $5-6 per gallon within the next 2-3 years and there will be NOTHING our political machine will be able to do about it. The best thing I can think of to prepare is stop buying big gas-pigs. If I see you driving down the road in a Suburban or Excursion I will just laugh when you complain about the "high" cost of gas.
