Any benefic running heavy gear oil over factory recomment ? beside fuel miles will drop a bit.

my 10 bolt gm factory recomment 80w90, and most of u know 10 bolt is the worse rear diff gm ever put on a camaro/trans am. I drove it hard and all year round. 85w140 valvoline dino or durablend ok ?

Probably won't hurt anything. I'm running 75w-140 in the rear diff of my car and, like yours, it specs 75/80w-90. I haven't noticed any difference in gas mileage or anything else for that matter.

I'm not entirely certain there are many benefits to running heavier gear oil unless you plan to encounter higher temps in the differential. I tried it as an experiment.

Why don't you try 75W110 ? It's a little expensive and a little thicker than 80W90 at operating temperature but a little thinner when cold.

Bleive me, I wish i can run synthetic, I would properly use redline gear oil, but for auburn rear differential i have no choice but to run only dino.

So exactly what qualifies as dino? Old rule?

You could run Chevron RPM 75W90 which is a 500,000 mile approved lubricant. When it first came out Chevron didnt call it Synthetic only after the Castrol/Mobil decision. Its only Group III.

Steve I been looking for that gear oil, since 3 year ago, I have no idea where I can find that. Im alway and wanted to try that.

btw how often does rear diff gear oil need to be change ? I think mine had around 7k miles since last year. im using lucas 80w90

T56,
Generally 30-50k miles or once a year. However, I would change out the Lucas for Mobil 1, RP, or Castrol Syntorq. I do believe they are higher quality fluids.

I tried a few different ones, and have been happiest with Amsoil AGL 80W90. Definitely don`t go heavier than spec, stick with 80W90.

Sorry I always get them confused. Delo ESI was originally marketed as RPM ESI. So the corrct fluid is 80W90 or 85W140 Delo ESI.

Check with those guys. Volvo did use ESI as factory fill.

Auburn recomment change out every 6k, and Im also read on my manual say change out every 6k also, and its already been 1 year and 7k miles, should I change now ?

I changed from 75w90 to 85w140...my mileage did not decrease, and may have actually increased slightly.

If it does, you can't measure it reliably, nor is it enough to affect the metals, bearings, or seals. Again, I was running 85w140 and while towing 8500 pounds, my rear diff ran 140*F in 80* ambient temps.
