Any bad ARX experiences?

I've been lurking around here for a little while now and have read many great things about arx. I'm not really looking for people who used it and didn't really see any results. I'm more concerned with any problems that you think may have been caused by the arx treatment. Before you start flaming me, let me tell you why.
My wife has a '95 explorer with 250k miles. The transmission went out last fall, and we're just about to have it rebuilt now. It's been sitting for the better part of the last 9 months. Before we parked it, the engine was making a noticeable ticking sound. It seems to have gotten worse in the meantime. She bought the truck at 80k and since then it's had nothing but Mobil 1 20w-50 (south florida, no real winter) per her dads recomendation.
The reason I'm looking for bad experiences is that if anything goes wrong she's gonna blame me for "putting that crap off the internet in her car." I'm not looking for a reason to bash arx, frank, or anyone else on this site. I've seen a few somewhat similar threads get nasty, and that is not my goal. Just about everything I've read about arx has been positive, and I intend to treat my truck ('98 frontier 100k) before I do hers. I am just concerned about using such a strong cleaner in such a high mileage engine. Thanks in advance for any advice.

It is a strong -safe cleaner Auto-Rx can do no harm. Please read the MSDS & FAQ. I understand your wifes concerns. However perhaps if she understands Auto-Rx uses oil as a carrier only and changes no oil chemistry, it might ease her fears.

The only nasty side effects, if you can call them that, is if a seal is lame to begin with (torn, etc.) that Auto-Rx won't fix it. Off board the only odd thing that happened in a severely sludged engine is that the filter totally plugged up. It didn't cause any issues but the owner was unprepared for the amount of cleaning action that occurred.


If you have a tick now, there's a good chance you'll hear more during the process of using Auto-Rx. They typically pass. You will probably need two treatments.

My engine is so much quieter that I don't think it's running. So I try to start up a motor that's already running -- probably bad for the starter.

Ummm. My car seemed better able to handle high speeds. Hence the speeding ticket.

ARX is a very thorough cleaner. But is very gentle. It takes alot of miles to work. But that is a good thing. Engine deposits are slowly dismantled, the only safe way to clean.

Also, If you are going to drop the transmission for a rebuild, then do yourself a favor and replace the rear main seal for a couple bucks.

I think ARX is probably the BEST cleaning product for your motor, transmission, and power steering pump. I won't use any other cleaners besides this. I just wish they would make a fuel line cleaner like FP60.

Oh yeah, and you are CRAZY for running 20w50 in that motor. You should be running a 5w30. Especially after the ARX treatment. I hope you like buying oil pumps, because I made the mistake of putting 10w40 in an Exploder for about 40k. That is when I had to replace the oil pump. But, if you like Russian Roulette then go ahead and keep using it.

I run GC in my truck, and havoline in my old car which she's currently driving. I didn't say anything about the 20w-50 while we lived in florida, but that's just not gonna work here in a tennessee winter. However, it did go 170,000 miles on that weight, so I don't think it was too harmful. I think after the arx treatment I'll put the explorer on GC as well.

I wish that I would have had the opportunity to use GC in my exploder. Well, lets say I wish I had the knowledge of GC to use it. I think that GC and the Exploder will work well together, may even help your fuel mileage.

GC= german castrol. It's a full synthetic you'll probably only be able to find at autozone. As far as I know it's the only oil with it's own forum on this site. Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply to me

FYI, it's harder to quit then cigarettes, but at least it's non-toxic!

Auto-RX is one of only a few products I believe in now. I used it in a Saturn car I owned a while back and a small seal leak stopped leaking oil. There are all kinds of people at this web site who have tried it and believe in it.

There are some other products you can use to clean an engine. But Auto-RX is probably one of the safest to use.

I have cut my list of stuff I am willing to use way down. It is a pretty short list now. Auto-RX is at the top of the list. I still believe in Lubegard products and Gummout Regane.
