Any American Whiskey fans here?

Bourbons on hand that I reach for:
Bookers (for special occasions, suprising smooth)
Markers Mark (a bit sweet but I still like it)
Woodford Reserve (fantastic stuff, so smooth)
Old Grand Dad (probably most reached for)
Old Crow (great tasting cheapo, especially for homemade Baileys)
Jack Black (though not considered bourbon by many)

Whiskeys on hand for guests that I don't reach for:
Crown Royal (too sweet)
Canadian Club (ditto)

that's because it's Tennessee sour mash whiskey. Totally different.

different, but I don't really think totally different, just the charcoal. IIRC, JD is legally considered a bourbon. I do not think that charcoal filtering disqualifies it as bourbon. And, as far as I know, Tennessee Whiskey does not have a legal definition. but who knows, its been an awful long time since I was readng about the differences on a website that argues booze like bitog argues oil, that's why I worded it as I did. I just care about the taste.

Bourbon with root beer...hmmm...

I recommend giving it a try. With all the different bourbons and root beers out there the possibilities are almost endless. I always preferred Mug for mixing myself.

"Uniquely recognized as "America's native spirit," by an act of Congress in 1964, no whiskey can call itself Bourbon unless it is manufactured within the United States according to the Bourbon formula. That is, a whiskey distilled at not higher than 160° from a fermented mash of grain containing at least 51 percent corn and stored at not more than 125 proof, in NEW, charred, white oak barrels."

"and stored at not more than 125 proof"

I do not think I have ever purchased a bottle of Booker's less than 125 proof. From memory, most have been 126.something with only a few in the 125 range.

Stopped over my pops to see him today and he had a bottle of 124.9 proof on the table. Really smoother than the proof sounds. Straight up is tasty, but it is strong. Just a splash of water really tames it a bit and lets the flavors come thru the alcohol without tasting watered down.
