Any Advantage In Valvoline Modern Engine Synthetic?

I interpret the Hyundai manual as leaving you wide open to run what you want. I run a thicker d1G2 5w30 changed at the severe service interval.

Hey Knerml,
I bought the Magnatec for $5 a jug at Walmart (see image at bottom). I bought the EDGE for the Santa Fe Turbo a short time before that and didnt feel like returning it. I really like Valvoline, Royal Purple and Castrol since i used them in my youth and its been a staple of usage.

Note: The oil brand I've used most, by far, is Valvoline.

Sorry for speaking for you, Brigadier. I assumed you were citing the knerml screenshot. We are in agreement, Hyundai/KIA gives much latitude.

-ACEA A5
-Energy Conserving
-Quaker State
etc...

That's further proof that the manuals need some serious updating and clarification.

But i don't sweat it anymore. I just use a quality oil and appropriate OCI.

I have been using Valvoline, Castrol and Mobil 1 synthetics for decades. Purchase decision also driven by price and availability.

Have a 2011 Kia Forte 2.0l with 110K mi and just sold a 2011 Kia Sorento 2.4l, with no oil related issues or consumption.

Nice list. I too have been responsible for service on a few Hyundai/KIA vehicles.

Veloster 1.6 - ~88K, (only used 5W20 conventional, blends and syns)

Sonata GLS 2.4 - ~80K+, (only used 5w20 conventional, blends and syns) ***

Sonata Sport 2.4 - 20K, (5w20, 5w30 , 0w40 used syns and conventional)

current: Santa Fe Sport 2.0T - 110K+, (5w30, 5w40 used syns and twice used conventional)

current: KIA sportage 2.4 - 1,500K (5w30 syn so far...)

***The Sonata GLS is the only vehicle that had an issue. It pinged. But after i changed the plugs and the battery, all was normal again.
