Need to change the antifreeze in the Sonata. I picked up a gallon of 50/50 Mix at the dealer for $23 after tax. Was wondering what my other options are, I'd like another gallon or two. This stuff is blue and I don't want to mix colors. From the owner's manual:

Get some Pre-mix or Concentrate from the dealer while it's under warranty. Shouldn't cost much more. At least here it doesn't and we usually get gouged on everything. A lot of Asian brands use blue coolant. Mitsubishi is a good one to look up if you want to find similar spec to what's in your Hyundai.

Your other options are Pentosin, Pintofrost A3 Blue. Pintofrost A2 is green and is the same chemically cept for the color and is not diluted. By the way, the coolant in your sonata, and the pentosin's are real 5 year coolants. I believe they are HOAT technology, its good stuff, its not the same old coolant from yesteryear.

Pintofrost A3 blue 50/50 is 18.99 A2 green 100% is 23.99 I think they meet oem for warranty "Post above is correct for the acid technology"

You would know in a hurry... Excessively foams. Don't ask how I know that. One word. SISTER! mad

After rereading your post, I would read the jug of coolant you bought. I thought all Asian vehicles used HOAT tech coolant now. I'm pretty much positive all Japanize do, they also have red=Toyota/lexus. "Disgregard, its still Ethylene glycol based! my bad!" I read from your owners manual, Ethylene glycol base coolant, So maybe you don't have HOAT coolant, but, I know all extended life blue coolants are HOAT's. That's why they are blue. I'm confused....

OAT can be used anywhere HOAT can be used. But HOAT can't be used everywhere OAT can be used. My Journey takes OAT and my dad's 2012 Caravan takes HOAT. He just upgraded to OAT at coolant change time. Just FWIW.

wow That is alot of antifreeze changing. after 60000miles then every 30000 is pretty low mileage for a modern engine imo.

I had it mixed up, I thought it was the other way around. I thought HOAT was the newest gen, you are correct steve, its OAT that is the newest gen. Blue is OAT, not HOAT! OAT is good for 5 years or 150,000 miles! If its not contaminated by HOAT or any thing else.

Hyun/Kia AF is a typical Asian PHOAT, or Phosphated OAT AF. Several aftermarket options out there including the previously noted/linked Pep Boys OEM brand concentrate (not premix). Comes in four tints including blue. If you can find it at PB it's the best deal/value now. Pentofrost A3 another option though as it comes as a premix more expensive. Zerex Asian Formula another premix, comes in blue and red tint, and likely can be found for less than A3. WalMart Valvoline Asian Vehicle is the same as ZAF but only comes in red tint. As for the ethylene glycol based requirement, most AFs are eg based including the Asian PHOATS.

Not true. DexCool is an OAT AF using 2eha an inhibitor. G-05 is a HOAT, the topic Asian AF are P-HOATS. DexCool is not recommended for use in either application, neither uses or recommends 2eha as an inhibitor.

You made the generalized statement, "OAT can be used anywhere HOAT can be used. But HOAT can't be used everywhere OAT can be used." That is inaccurate and was included in this discussion. And FYI, other vehicle manufacturers use DexCool, not just GM. Ford now uses DexCool OAT AF too. What I posted is accurate.

You might want to check your owner's manual. For my Kias and Hyundais, antifreeze is good for at least 100K mi or 10 years. If you replace the original antifreeze, you have to change it every couple of years. If you do replace it, use Asian formula.

Just used this on mine. Get a gallon of distilled water and cut it 50/50. You can use less water to get a stronger mix. You can get it at Pep Boys or order from there eBay site.

Warranty is long gone, but I'd like to keep it blue and not go mixing colors. Coolant was supposed to be changed at 60k miles, I'm at almost 70k because I haven't got around to it. Maybe this weekend I can change it. Looks like the PepBoys blue concentrate is the best deal. Thanks guys!

Feel better now?
