Anti-seize or grease?

The shift cable was so badly rusted to the lever that you can see it's bent where the ball end attaches to the lever from trying to move the shifter. After hours of prying, soaking overnight and prying some more, I finally got it removed. What should I coat it with when reattaching the cable? Anti-seize or some grease? I have Permatex ceramic silicone brake lube.

Anti seize usually has a fine metallic dust involved. Not good for moving parts. The brake grease would be better, with a good cleaning and such beforehand.

I'd replace the whole cable, whatever you do now will only be a temporary fix and not a good one at that.

No I will not spend $200 on a cable, if it's even available, and 2 hours labor when a good lubrication will take care of it.

I think grease. Clean and refresh from time to time.

Use BOESHIELD T-9 Rust & Corrosion Protection/Inhibitor and Waterproof Lubrication

I agree with the grease. Waterproof if you have it.

Used the brake lube. Shifter nice and smooth now.
