I was discussing this with a friend of mine tonight, and we couldn't seem to agree. If an oil has particularly good cleaning abilities, such as the likes of Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra, would adding Liqui-Moly MOS2 hinder the oil's ability to clean? I was of the opinion that it wouldn't, but my friend's view was it does.

MoS2 does not really do any good, and it actually can clog up the filter, so do not waste your money - I used to be a firm believer in it, until I joined up here. Take the money you saved, and use it for more frequent oil changes, that will actually accomplish something.

Actually, I've recently met up with the Liqui-Moly Research/Development Manager and Export Manager...not sure if you saw my thread. But MOS2 and filter clogging was one of the questions I asked, and they assured me it definitely does not clog filters.

What? Can this be the same captain_kirk who tells people to use Synlube? You are suggesting more frequent oil changes? I thought Synlube had made oil changes historic.

And I thought Synlube had PTFE, moly, and graphite in it.

This is Klink, not kirk

A true colloidal MoS2 solution will not clog a filter and most definitely will help reduce friction with metal on metal contact. Lubro Moly MoS2 had not clogged an filter have cut open.

I've been running Lubro-Moly in applications with Stratapore filter media and stacked disc bypass filter media and they have not plugged yet. Still get very hot to the touch.

Hey, it was funny!!! (I've done that a few times myself.)

Yes, the MOS2 additive will not clog oil filters, even those with synthetic media.

Having said that, will it have a negative effect on an oil's cleaning ability?

It could.

Here's the situation.

When a lube is formulated, solvency chemicals and dispersant agents keep the colloidal additives and other additives suspended.

The amount of solvency and dispersancy agents required are calculated on the volume or mass of the additive package and it's constituents.

If too much additive is injected without enough dispercency agent, various additives could start falling out and become less effective.

The only time I've seen MoS2 additive fallout is with whatever it was Gary Allen was using. I've personally never had issues with the Lubro Moly stuff.
