I just picked up a LX450 (Toyota land cruiser) at 106k the fluid was slightly dark so I think it had been changed at least once in its life, like you for a wile I am going to drain and refill at each oil change, it has a 12QT capacity but you only get 4 by pulling the drain plug, so it will take a wile to get the majority swapped out

I am using chevron dino for initial cleaning, going to switch to M1 ATF when the fluid stays clean between drains, when it is mostly M1 I will stop and let it ride for 50K

someone posted a spread sheet that calculated the ratio of old fluid to new fluid anybody remember where?

Suggestion, I had a 95 Landcruiser with 136K+ miles on it when I traded it for a new 4th generation 4runner. I used Mobil 1 synthetic ATF in the LC. I used the total fluid exchange machine every 30K miles. Takes 15qts for the exchange. Don't "flush" (put a cleaner in) the transmission only put ATF in the transmission to keep from having a failure. The FZJ80 is built like a tank and should last you forever if you want to keep driving it. I ran synthetics through out the driveline, just because I am anal like the rest of you guys that come to this site.

March is the first anniversary of owning my '03 Corolla. Toyota says the tranny does not have to be changed, I did it anyway - an over doer like most of us. Anyway was I glad it did! The old ATF smelled terrible while being drained. When I put new Toyota Type IV in, it seemed to shift smoother. Someone on this board said for "cheap insurance - change all fluids once a year". IMHO, that's very good advice.

As I've indicated in a couple other threads, I just had the very same experience with my '03.5 V-6 Camry, which also calls for the Type-IV ATF. From what I saw, I've concluded that this ATF is good for about a year and 30k miles in a hot climate. Dealer did a full flush/refill (not just pan drop) which cost about $125. I'm happy to pay this on an annual basis to ensure cleanliness and long life. I was actually having some light shudder which is now gone.

Thanks for the info GimmiTorque. I'm heading over there now to read up!

We just found out our ATX temp is 193F at idle, while in park. Sigh.

I'll try and get readings after I install the 16,000 GVW B&M. (4x the GVW of the 6s). I though about getting the 24,000, but ****, thats 6x the GVW! (I guess if it doesn't drop enough I'll snag it).

Thanks again.
