but if I were an alien, is is really much different than "coffee" or "tea" which also sell for $3 a bottle which is also a dried fruit/veggie in water.
 
If people buy it !!! No more stupid than people paying $3000.00 for a $900.00 AR 15.
 
I don't see the problem. Unless there is some deception on the price marked, a bottle of water, correctly priced, whats the issue? Sure its not worth $5.99 to most of us, but they can try and see what the market will bear.
 
A plain bottle of water is sometimes $2 or $3 if it has vitamins in it. But no uproar over thst.
 
Can't see buying bottled water in the first place. What comes from our faucet is just fine with me. Heck of a lot cheaper.

Wow. Is OJ twice as expensive in California too? The half gallon bottles here are $3. Actually, I think the bottles of Simply Orange are 59 oz.

I get the Minute Maid Low Acid Pulp Free for like $2.50-3.50 depending on what store and what sale is going on.
 
how is it different than any luxury good. Go to a high end restuarant and pay $50 for a $10 steak....people shopping Whole Foods are either incredibly stupid or just plain brain-washed. This idea that organic is better for you is baloney. We live longer now than we ever have, even with all the stuff we spill into the air. As others have said, first world problem.

I suppose it's all relative. I would shudder at paying $12/gallon for orange juice, when I can buy a bag of juice oranges for $2.50 and make a half gallon of fresh orange juice.
 
I think selling asparagus water at Whole Foods is a great idea from a profit margin and marketing perspective. Their only mistake was backpedaling because of a little internet flack. They should have expanded its availability instead. People love dumb stuff.

I rarely buy orange juice in a bottle, it doesn't taste as good as fresh squeezed orange juice.

I don't drink soda, I like fresh squeezed juices such as orange, grape fruit ...

But once in a while I was lazy, so a jug orange juice for a day or two.

Yes, fresh squeezed orange juice at Pavilions grocery store is expensive, but it is much better than others.

Well, when you consider how much goes into getting 1/4 cup of ground coffee into your filter to make a 12 oz cup of coffee vs. cutting a couple of Asparagus spears, I'd say it's pretty different...

Lots of folks are all about the free market except for stuff they don't like.

I will say I'm a bit curious the Asparagus Water sales figures. I think it needs a flashier label if it's going to take off.
 
The free market is great. Where else could you make a business out of destroying the nutritional value of an orange and reducing it to flavored sugar water and selling it for an outrageous price.

People know they can save money and get the nutritional value back by just eating an orange but they still buy the sugar water version.

There's probably a company out there selling insulin and promoting the idea that orange juice is good for you.

The free market depends on people that don't think and they're never disappointed.
