Aw yeah... Used engine oil might be too stinky for me but I did 'seal' a whole bunch of chipboard and studs with used ATF that worked a charm

It meet spec, what makes you think other companies' oil isn't using recycled base oil without telling you?

IMO, if it's recycled oil, it's been refined twice, and probably better.
