Another new temperature record for Phoenix?

Close to historic storm this weekend in the orange level and above. I'll be up there in a few days.

People that relocate between this area and Phoenix only migrate in one direction. Can't shovel heat.

Forecast 3-26.webp

The temperature for Phoenix is forecast to be 106 F this Friday, March 20, which would be a new record for March. For the believers in the heat island theory, Apache Junction is expected to be 104 F. It’s a dry heat. :D
It's all they're talking about on the Phx news. Messing with preseason baseball schedule *gasp*. It is serious as tourists come and try to hike up some of the little mountains around Phx and get in trouble and have to be rescued. A few die every spring. Don't go hiking in the afternoon next week Nick.

The dry heat thing? It's the difference between being in the oven and being in an oven bag in the oven.

Going to be in the low 90s here for the next week. We live in East County, San Diego. I took the AC out of hibernation today and made sure everything was up to par. A few years ago, we were at 114 degrees when our power went out. It was terrible. Typically, we only see really high temperatures a few days out of the year.

I’m in Sunny SoCal LA area. Do you feel in this area we only have 2 seasons, it’s cold or it’s hot. And we complain both times. Then when it rains, Californians cannot drive.

We're in Phoenix this weekend. Yep, it's warm. But the lack of humidity makes it tolerable. We'll know it's hot when @Nick1994 bakes chocolate chip cookies in his car.

This reply is in reference to your Apache Junction/ heat island theory.

In 2014 I rented a monster large, enclosed RV storage locker in Apache Junction. Being transferred to Pennsylvania, I had to unload to storage locker into 26 ft Penske trucks. The move required two trucks.

The first day I loaded the truck mid-day, and about died from the heat generated from the blacktop outside of the storage locker. At that time, I was about as resilient and well-conditioned for any physical challenge. I was caught off guard about how the heat was impacting my truck loading performance.

For the second truck, I changed strategy to load the truck at 3am, so I could avoid the heat in Apache Junction. What I discovered, was the 3am start did not reduce the heat, the blacktop at 3am was releasing heat very steady and I was in just as much of heat strain situation at 3am in Apache Junction, as I was at 1pm in Apache Junction.

Your comment reference Apache Junction of "heat island theory" is misinformed.

Strong words there GON. Apache junction is normally two to three degrees F cooler than Phoenix. It's because Phoenix is subject to the heat island theory and Apache Junction is normally two to three degrees cooler because it has desert to the north, east and a bit to the south. Sure heat is given off blacktop. Next time rent storage locker in Urban Phoenix and report back.

When I left Tempe AZ in 1977 a friend of mine was working on creating a new golf course north of Scottsdale. He told me that to get to the water table they had to drill to 2000 ft. There is no telling how far down it is now. They had huge diesel pumps to bring it up.
