Another Mazda 3 rant

Some people don't get the concept that driving with windows down AND a/c on is the quickest way to cool off a hot car. The climate control is lucky to cool the dash and immediate 6 inches around it, while the windows will exchange the air and cool the rest of the interior while the a/c gets cranking. The point is to start driving with the windows down and the a/c at the same time. many of us were raised to NEVER put the windows down while the a/c is on. Uhhh? Mom and I still get into it over this.

I thought this was second nature for ppl. Definitely start driving, if anything to not waste fuel & start the air moving out & in.

I was just thinking how good my A/C is in my '07 2.3L 3 today. I've been quite happy with it.

i work in a Mazda dealer in the parts dept, i am the Mazda expert now, because everyone else wants to just do Ford. i dont see a lot of real problems with them. a lot of issues come from lack of regular maintainence. interior pieces break a lot, but mostly from people making them break. the radios have some issues, but mostly the little display unit.

with Mazda there are totally random parts that take forever to order.

Usually the resident Mazda 3 owners on bitog trip over themselves to heap nothing but praise on the 3. I guess people see what they want to see.

Not really, the owner satisfaction is extremely high for the 3 unlike something like the Focus.
Even chatboards like mazda3forums where it's a 3 luv fest, the complaint threads out number the likes threads 9-1.

It's the internet, ppl complain about everything. Doesn't mean it's the end of the world.

Yep. On any enthusiast board you will find tons of complaint theads over the tiniest issues. When people are in a setting where they do not have to defend their car (enthusiast forum), they would rather complain about every little flaw on it.

My sister has an '06 3. It was parked in the sun for a couple hours today, and the A/C seemed to work okay. It wasn't spectacular, but it did the job. The car has a black interior, and the temps were in the low 90s I believe. I can't remember noticing a lack of engine power with the A/C on the last time I drove it, but that was a very long time ago.

04 Mazda 3s : a/c and carpet is awful, paint is brittle

I will not buy another mazda.

Name me a car for the same price that doesn't have some collection of drawbacks or relatively minor flaws. I think it's foolhardy to reject an entire manufacturers line up like you have. Moreover, the car companies change designs and suppliers so often that if you wait ten years between buying cars, you have to research everybody all over again.

Environmental laws in Japan concerning paint and what not are a problem with all japanese made vehicles. Every late model Japanese manufactured car I have seen in this country has had paint problems. Don't limit it to one company.

Sorry, but I have been so dissapointed with this car and the dealership. The "heater" would be great if I did not live in the southeast. Have you seen what the "carpet" looks like after a few years? I'm sorry Japan can not purchase or develop good paint. I will try to remember that the next time I'm using touch up paint. My last new vehicle is a 94 Ford Ranger. It has been good front to back, top to bottom.

I have the exact same model. 2.0L 2007 MT. I live in Cincinnati where the summers are hot (90-95f and high humidity). I have the same issue where the ride only begins to get comfortable as I'm arriving at my destination. I don't have too many gripes with my car, and this is definitely the biggest.

Sorry to raise this thread from the dead, I just wanted to show that others are having the same problem.

Didn't know there were so many 3 owners on the board. Anyway i bought an'08 3 in December, just hit 1000 miles. Great car overall. Some negative observations:

-carpet doesn't appear durable
-black interior shows every hair shed from my yellow lab. (my fault, should have known).
-as mentioned, it's easier to crack the German WW2 enigma code than read the oil dipsick.
-whats with that plastic shield that needs to be removed whenever routine maintenence is done?
overall though, by far, the best car i've ever owned.

That one had me about busting a gut with laughter. Thanks for that!

The protective underbelly is supposed to limit the amount of debris and water getting into the engine bay. It also helps force specific air flow to help in aerodynamics and engine cooling. Many cars have it nowadays, including my old A4 and my 530i.

Yeah, the shield does several things. The increased aerodynamics and MPG help are my favorite benefits.

The extra effort to remove / install is well worth the filth protection. My 3i and my MS6 both have one. In the case of the MS6 it is also a useful tool to detect leaks. :-(

We have the Mazda3 5 door with the 2.3L engine and manual tranny. I wish it were available with the 2.0L, as I get wheel spin whenever it rains, and generally feel the 2.3 isn't needed, and typically get 25 MPG max. The a/c has been fine, maybe not overpowerful, but no complaints. I have trouble driving any car after my wife drives it, because the a/c doesn't seem to be putting out, but it is because my wife doesn't want any air blowing on her, and most of the vents are off or directed away from her! Takes me a second to remember that......

1) I totally agree with you on the 2.0L. I really liked the 3 5-door but I do not want a 2.3L over a 2.0L.

2) My wife does the same thing with the vents. Drives me nuts.

Wheelspin is just as present on the 2.0. I absolutely hated that car when it came time to pull out onto a fast-moving frontage road. Spinning, squealing, and when you really try to hurry...wheelhop. And if the corner was wet from spinkler runoff, fugettaboutit. It has been noted on the Mazda boards that the 2.0 did get slightly better mileage with only a 12 hp difference.

On par with the American car market, we're about the only country that doesn't get a 2.0 5-door.
