Gosh Pablo, if all you're going to do is destroy those unused EAO17s, I'll send you a couple bucks to ship them to me for my EcoBoost!

Nothing against you personally, but I fail to see value in cutting open random unused filters, because if you cut it open and nothing was wrong with it, technically you've done nothing but increase the probability that the next one you actually use on the engine will be the defective one... let that sink in, LOL.

I know this is going to draw lots of ire from some folks, but while we all agree that cleaner oil is better oil, there's not much data to prove that the somewhere-above-3.4-DPMO process that creates defective oil filters results in significantly increased rates of engine failures. Even @wwillson, who won the :poop: lottery by finding three bad Fram XGs in a short timeframe, hasn't had any engine problems due to poor quality filters. Sure, finding a failed filter sucks, and it will make you mad as a hornet, but even Tearolators don't have a mountain of failed engines to blame them. Honestly (as a general question for everyone) ask yourself, have we ever seen an engine failure here due to torn media or a leaky ADBV? But by no means am I giving shoddy manufacturers a free pass! I choose to cut after use and then if I find a defective one, stop using that brand.

BTW I have an EAO17 that is next up on my truck in about another 7k miles!

You might be a BITOGer if you tear open unused filters. :ROFLMAO:

I am not looking to find the singular defective filter, I am simply looking at general 2025 construction. Really changes nothing regarding odds.

Seems to me that the only way to see what the current quality is of a particular filter is to open it up. Wouldn’t make much sense to run it for 5k miles and then open it up to see what the quality is.

Thanks Pablo

The "fail/no fail" criteria shouldn't be if the engine blew-up or not. 🙃 In the case of a filter tearing media or shedding sloppy glue that comes loose in service, if any of that debris went into the oiling system there's always a chance it could clog a small oil passage or VVT screens, etc.
