Yeah, I wanna know too! My old iMac can't even handle the connection I have here...it's actually considerably faster (another megabit or so), but my computer can only use 2.1 megabits of that!

We have a web hosting company in our building. We are tapped into thier DS3. So, my speed is pretty decent. We were capped at 2 MB or so, but they had to remove it due to some temptorary browsing issues. They just never re-installed the cap.

My computer is just a litle Centrino laptop with 1.4 Ghz Pentium-M, 512 MB of RAM and a 40 GB drive.

Hey Mark in NY,
Actually Long Island has one of the best cable modem services in terms of speed, Cablevision. It's actually a legit speed you have, my friend gets close to 9, but then he works for them and has a better modem that connects to his PC via 100 base ethernet instead of the typical 10 base that ends up limiting your speed to around 6 or so.

Well-I was in the same boat. But I now use my cell phone exclusively for long distance (that saves at least $30/month). I dropped my cable service down to basic which is now $10/month instead of $38. So paying $20/more for cable modem isn't such a leap.

You guys are lucky.

I live out in the boonies. The nearest cable is still 7 miles away and the DSL "Box" (whatever that means) is too far away.

I have an antenna on my house for tv reception

I am in the same boat as Chris142.

Our data rates average 30.6 kbytes/sec.

Copper wire to central (10 miles away) then microwave another 30 miles.

But then of course, to get to my property you have to swing in on a vine after disembarking from your perot!
