Oil change was successful. Oil was pitch black but not sludgy or chunky. Filter looks good. Was very easy to cut open. Looks like a purolator. Was going to use 10w30 Castrol magnetec but with the age of the seals and length it went without oil change I settled for valvoline 10w40 conventional SN. STP extended life oil filter.

Thank you for taking time to post this; that’s a very solid looking filter. Given what you mentioned about the age of the seals, it’s understandable why you went up in viscosity. What are your thoughts on trying a high mileage version of 10W 30? I kept trying Castrol GTX high mileage synthetic blend In 10W-30 and after three OCI’s, oil loss in my 3800 V6 in the LeSabre completely stopped. Not saying that Castrol’s high mileage oil’s are the only ones that could work since many folks have had good luck with others such as Valvoline max life as well as the Mibil1 high mileage oil’s. I’m sure there are others as well.

Forgot to mention it was made almost 29 years ago in case someone didn't see the other thread. As others said, it looks surprisingly good for the situation it was in.
