You must not have read it through...because you are not correct.

Why the LOL snipe? 76 posts and you've already started to behave like a teenager?

Bless your heart...I am a decade older than you according to your post anyway that your 50.
I started on this website many years ago.....Terry Dyson and many of the old timers will verify that fact. I was a moderator on LS1.com for years....so I have no idea what my post count has to do with anything......oh well....Havent been on here for a long long time and came back for a visit.....have no idea what happened to my old user name...doesnt matter.....
So anybody that doesnt embrace your ideas to give their DNA to some company (for whatever their reason) is a teenager and we are going to attack them and call them names?
OK...you da man...........LOL

Why not state what you have to say instead of beating around the bush? You think putting your DNA in a database is a bad idea due to some conspiracy reasons based on nothing but your paranoia. Do you have anything else to contribute to this thread?

You're the one that entered into this thread for the obvious intent of mockery. That my friend, is the actions of either an adolescent....or at best, a teenager. And I have no problem with anyone that chooses not to participate with a DNA background check. The issue I have is when one treats those that do, in the manner you did.

Maybe you should stick to scribbling on bathroom stalls?

I thought it probable when I started the thread that veiled attacks would follow. The intent being to make those that are interested in science related subjects appear as "sheeple" we they choose to learn via mainstream research employing the latest technology. Of course since the government is involved in some way (as the government is involved in every aspect of life.....we (the "sheeple") are being "exploited".

I have dislike of many of the over-reaches of government. Many of us that are "held back" by some government policies. But to shun all research be it has a Government Tie-In" is "Tinfoilism" at its finest. And to imply those of us who follow science/research are "sheeple" IMHO is an attempt to feel relevant in a technology based world that has passed them by.

Kuwait to DNA test and tag all tourists

Quote:
Citizens will be DNA tested by using mobile testing centres that will move through the state and residents will have their DNA captured when they apply for the issuing or renewing of residency visas during medical examinations.

Odd they would go through all this if it wasn't useful for the government. Kuwait not so big on freedom.

My family( both sides )has kept track of their genealogy dating back all the way to the start of this country. Oldest known family tree member of note would be Governor Stuyvesant in the 1600's( Father's side ).

Others of note would be( in no particular linear order )...

Samuel Adams
John Adams
John Stark
Stonewall Jackson

We have our own ancestry without paying for it.

Good for you...that is an impressive lineage.

The DNA sites can furnish information a lot further back than that however. It's more about our far distant ethnic roots as opposed to specific individuals. When that is added to the known decedents.....it adds even more perspective.

We agree on much here. I also despise big government. I am not one to trust the intent of that body. The governments purpose has long ago been broached.

But yes, the paranoid crowd and, as you've very humorously called "tinfoilism" is as rampant and pervasive as any government overreach.

I know first hand as my own father has become one. I can't even talk to him anymore. He would be comical if it wasn't for the fact that he was once a fairly bright and credible man.

Congrats..I have traced my line back to their arrival in 1752, Traced my wife's descendent to Dr Fuller on the Mayflower (she is in the Mayflower society). I have done multiple research on Revolutionary soldiers and got my wife and Daughter into the DAR.

But don't tell me it was free...lol

Travel costs money. I have used very limited professional genealogy researchers. So unless you got handed the research for free...its expensive even if you do your own. You are talking to someone who has done research for 40+ years. Been there..done that.

But the thing about doing MY own research is I know to 98% certainty that it is correct. If you don't do the research yourself with virgin sources you don't really know. I could give you examples you would find hard to believe.

But again congrats for taking an interest. Its great to know your roots.

No matter what your interests or beliefs, there will always be haters to spring up and douse your party with poo water.

When the OP said he hoped the thread wouldn't crash and burn, I thought "why would that happen"?

Oh well....

I took the 23andMe version of this test a couple years ago. Nothing really that exciting about the results but I did get to dispel a family myth about Native American ancestry. I have zero detectable Native ancestry.

Wonder how these sorts myths get started.

People PAY MONEY to get added to a DNA database!!?? A DNA database that the police/FBI/authorities will eventually access if they haven't already.

NO THANKS!!!

I could care less to know that my 4th cousin twice removed on my mothers uncle's side of the family died at Gettysburg. Whoopy.

Well then....don't hold back.

Yes my friend, some people, as difficult as it is for you to fathom....do find the details of genetic testing and it's conclusions to be interesting. Some people, like me, find the historical context of ones family tree to be at least as interesting as a bottle of motor oil.

And what significance does it make if the FBI has access to it or not?? So should I get arrested with a federal crime first and then politely ask them to do a DNA background check for me? You make zero sense.

Oh...and the phrase is..."I couldn't care less".

Don't forget the several page thread when the labels on the Pennzoil were changed.

I'm wanting to do the 23and me test. Parents are from Mexico. Mom is very light skinned and father was very light brown. Brother of mine Has lighter Brown hair with Hazel eyes and me not as Hazel as him, kinda darker eye color, black hair, kinda pale white skin anywhere the sun don't hit. We both have very full beards. Heck, mine goes almost 1" away from my eyes on my cheekbones. Very curious to find out ethnicity.

I understand the 23 and me test may be better but Ancestry has a gigantic so you can locate your cousins etc (goes to at least 4th cousin) You don't need to give your real name, etc. And the nice thing is you can contact folks to get information on your genealogy.

Don't know how it works on 23andme..the same I presume. But when every company you deal with has your ss number..why worry? Privacy is a thing of the past.
