Hello,

can fuel additives improve the combustion at low temperatures, or even increase the combustion temperature, to avoid unburned fuel entering the crankcase?

We have a Cummins diesel engine that does a lot of low rpm operation, stop and go, and sometimes it has to be idled for a longer period. A UOA indicated that there is a dilution issue. The diesel fuel in Europe contains 5 - 7 % biodiesel. Once the unburned fuel enters the oil, the diesel part will evaporate off at higher oil temperatures, while the biodiesel will remain because of its higher boiling point. Shell even told me that because of the biodiesel's polarity, it will be kept suspended in the oil. Usually our oil gets hot enough to get rit of the diesel, so the biodiesel is likely to be the problem.

The engine is a Cummins 4BT 3.9. Low idle is 950 rpm, sometimes we leave it at 1050 rpm or so. What engine speed is required to achieve a complete combustion, is it something like 1200 rpm and above?

Our operating conditions have to be reconsidered, but will there be a chemical solution for us?

Thanks for your input.

Hi,

I'm really surprised to see Schaeffer's in Germany, thanks for the link, Salesrep.

Jonny, in what application do you use this Hammerdown?

Thats the problems with bio diesel and one of the reasons shorter drians are required when useing it
