I'm going by what I observed with my own two eyes. This Jeep was purchased nearly brand new with only 6600 miles on the clock when I took delivery, and I always used quality gasoline, 90% of the time it was BP (Amoco) regular from a newer facility that sold lots of fuel. When I was on my Amsoil kick, my rep gave me a bottle to try since the Jeep 4.0 is an engine suceptable to carbon deposits and he assured me this would help keep carbon to a minimum. The Jeep had less than 20,000 miles on it when this happened. I did the initial "cleanup" dose of PI, and in that same tank of fuel was when I started having the aforementioned problems. After a few more tanks of "unmolested" fuel from the same station, the plugs continued to stay clean and white.
My Jeep stayed in my GF's garage at night, and during the day was always in plain view while I was at work, so there's little to no chance of anyone screwing with the fuel, and nobody that would even think of doing such a thing that I worked with.
Don't have an explination, just stating what had happened when I used this product.
There's no way that it had any sort of mechanical or igniton problem to speak of. If that were the case it wouldn't have started misfiring due to fouled plugs on the same tank that I added the PI to, and then disappear once that tank was used up. If anything contaminated the fuel, this additive was the only thing that was out of the ordinary. I had never run any additives in the fuel prior to this, and I'm sure the dealership that I bought it from didn't either...It was a "demo" that the new car manager drove and was then sold as used due to the excessive mileage.
