Ted, relax. To start, I wasn't the one who noticed this. Not to mention, it's been stated on here that they are NOT the same.

Whether they are or not, I don't know, but why are they using using 2 different methods? Makes no sense to me.

These oils must use a good amount of Esters if they are somehow able to make a Group III basestock have a Noak % of 4.7. You don't find that odd?

Since when is a Group III considered a synthetic?

Group III is a synthetic since Castrol won the court case against Mobil...

I personally don't care much about the baseoil being a group III. These XL oils are actually really good IMO. They must be using a good deal of ester to get the numbers they are putting up. Flash points are decent as well. Only thing that is strange is the Noak testing...I still think that for moderate drains, a well formulated Group III with a strong additive package can spank a PAO in may cases.

Buster, I agree with you about group III's ability to come close to
PAO performance. I have seen independent testing to show this from another board.

I may be wrong but my definition of a group III is an ultra refined
petroleum base stock oil with Ultra high or Very hign VI additives. The base stock evidently has much less wax and other impurities normally associated with the usual petro base stocks normally refined.

While I don't consider these formulations to be what we used to
consider a true synthetic I guess I must allow for new technology
to show itself as a good lubricant even if it's not what I considered a true synthetic.
