Im currently running redline D4 in my auto transmission (2002 Toyota Tacoma V6) and ive been draining the fluid in the pan every year along a filter change on my remote filter setup. Ive been reading about people getting 200-300K with the original transmission using amsoil universal atf. How often do you change out your fluid to acceive this mile stone? Is this stuff better than the D4? Thanks.

I've had several automatic transmissions (C6, TH350 and AODE) all go over 200K miles on dino ATF. I change what is help in the pan about every 10-15K and change the filter about every other year. These were all hardworking (towing, mostly overweight loads) automatics with no mods like additional coolers, remote filters, etc. I figured I make those mods when I had to pull the trans to rebuild them, sold all three before I ever had to do that. Currently running SF atf in both trucks, waiting to see what kind of mileage I get from them. Still change on the same schedule.

I've told this story before but here it is again. I bought an 01 Montana brand new, had the trans flushed every 30k with dino ATF and no filter change. After 150k the trans was whining and shifting harshly. I removed the transmission pan and found a thick layer of sludge and clutch material. I cleaned everything up, replaced the internal filter, refilled and flushed with Amsoil ATF and installed a bypass filter. 10k later the noise was gone and shifting had returned to normal. The van currently has 285k and still going strong.

I recently dropped the pan for the first time since Amsoil was installed(over 130k miles ago!!)and everything was clean. Only a little coating of clutch dust on the magnet.

Now all my fleet cars have Amsoil in the trans and a bypass filter. I used to average 2 rebuilds per year, in the last 2 years since I started using Amsoil ATF I've done zero rebuilds.

I really can't say if the ATF or the bypass filter had the greater effect since I did them both at the same time. But they're a great tag-team and I'm going to stick with it.

I did a couple write-ups on my trans bypass installations.
2003 Montana and 2003 Vibe

Basically it's this: A remote mounted Amsoil BE-90, the inlet is T'd into the trans cooling circuit and the return is plumbed into a zero pressure area, I used the dipstick tube.

Here is one: I always used it in my 14 year old probe without a problem. About three weeks ago I have decided to change the ATF but instead of using Amsoil I used a different brand of synthetics, boy a big mistake. Trammy was never the same and it gave me more problems that I was ready to switch back to the Amsoil ATF. But last Tuesday the VP of HR backed into my lovely ride and the car is basically junk status so I will take my money and run with it. Great idea on the by pass filter on the automatic transmission. I will try to do the same on my new car.

I have used Amsoil Universal Transmission Fluid in my 84 F-250 6.9 in the C-6 and transfer case for over 20 years. The engine, trans, and front end are still original. I have rebuilt the rearend and transfer case. The C-6 performs perfect...in fact with over 300,000 original miles on this transmission it shifts like it was new. I changed the transmission oil every 30,000 miles for the first 250+thousand miles and then let it go for quite some time 80,000 plus miles until the red color turned clear...since I just use the rig to haul an occational load of hay or trash to the dump...I put dextron back in it....still works great. Amsoil ATF is Awsome stuff.

LargeCarMan - does that 6.9 have 300K on it or has it been opened up? Had two 6.9, neither one was overly impressive, IMO. Although the NA IDI 7.3 and Turbo IDI 7.3 had "rod problems" I never had a bottem end problem with the ones I had, all had 270+ when sold. Maybe the 6.9 I have were Friday trucks.

In another post I talked some about a couple trucks that had many trans mods and in this post I mentioned the stock trans. These are differant trucks, sorry for the confusion.

I also made an oversite on my above post in that for the past few years I've been using a blend, Merc V, not striat dino. I get a good deal on 76 branded Merc V and run that in everything. I hope the SF atf I've got works out even better.

Been running Amsoil Universal synthetic ATF in my 98 Regal GS for about 5k miles so far and I love it. Just wish my transmissions buzzing when warmed up would go away. I have currently 52k miles on the car.

No,the engine has never been opened up. The injector pump has been replaced 4 times and all the injectors are original. I ran Amsoil 30 wt diesel oil with a bypass. Alway's have run fuel conditioner and have a racor fuel filter also. I used a quality antifreeze and fleetguard or equivlant additive too. Since it is semi retired... a few years "4or5" ago..only a trash hauler now, I have serviced the engine and transmission and went back to Dino Delo 400 15-40. The front end and rear end still have Amsoil 85-140 in them and the friction modifier from Ford. This has been a very good truck.
