Hey guys i was reading about using synthetic atf as power steering fluid for my 2002 Tacoma V6 it takes D2 or 3. People seem to choose moble aft but what about redline D4? Since ive got that in my auto transmission can i use that as a atf as well or is that overkill? Thanks.

I don't know what is the best or correct fluid for your Toyota, but Mobil 1 ATF (which has a Mercon/Dexron III works great in my Ford that calls for using Mercon in the power steering. Synthetic in the power steering is a great idea. Don't forget to check out Specialty Formulations synthetic Power Steering Fluid.
I've been using Mobil 1 DexIII/Mercon syn ATF in the P/S system of my Lexus(calls for Dexron) and it works fine.
I use mobil 1 atf in my bmw PS
Synthetic ATF unless the owner's manual calls for something special, like Honda.

Wife's RX300 calls for Dexron III but I couldn't find any synthetic Dexron III so I decided to try AAMCO semi-synthetic Mercon V (the label in the back said that it was Dexron III compatible). After a few days of use, the wife commented in passing that the steering feels much smoother than the factory stuff.

I use turkey-baster method and sneak in a half QT. several times a year. I'm trying to avoid a costly rack & pinion replacement somewhere down the road.

What about for a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee? Manual calls for power steering fluid, no mention of ATF.

Add a bottle of Lubegard Power Steering supplement. I could feel the difference in feel of both my Tundra and my Volvo.

Lubegard is usually stocked at NAPA and can be ordered at NAPA if they don't have it. Aamco labelled PS/ATF additives that is found at PepBoys is also Lubegard. And, there are several online stores that sell it.
And, its good preventive maintenance to siphon/refill the PS reservoir a couple times a years regardless of fluid brand chosen. I do so at every oil change and only need about a pint of synthetic ATF. Since this, I've never had to replace a pump or rack. I went through several pumps and racks years ago. Never again.
