I have a 2550 Deere MFWD loader tractor used primarily in the winter for hay work. Was debating on going with the Amsoil @ $80/5 gal pail or JD Hytrans non synthetic for 50 bucks per 5 gals. WOuld the cold weather performance be worth the extra money? Is there anything in the Deere fluid that might not be present in the Amsoil that I want to be aware of?

The major advantage is that Amsoil fluid will last several time as long in service. If you test it at the regular drain intervals and change just the filter, you can run the stuff a long, long time.
The full synthetic will also lower your oil temps and increase the life of your seals and hoses.

I have run the AMSOIL Hydraulic fluid in all our JD equipment. 4450,7810,2130,2750,9500.
The 4450 and the 2130 have had the oil in them for over 12 years and I just change the trans filters.
The oil still looks like the day I put it in.
JD Hyguard is very good oil, but doesn't have the low pour point of the synthetic.
The extended drain and low pour point more than ofsets the costs.

Wow this stuff must have a completely unique formulation from any other Hytrans type product I have ever used. Tractor fluid always has a very similar odor regardless of the brand or spec I have used...this stuff smells almost exactly like ATF only not quite as pungent.
Used tractor tonight on round baler (getting a little late in the season I know, but rain every 2 days in Sept. is not conducive to getting hay baled.) Axle housing and final drive housing was much much cooler than what it had been before with the Deere fluid after doing the same work. I am sold.
