I wanted to change the transmission fluid on my manual shifted 5 speed Dakota with the proper Amsoil product so i went to there website to select a fluid. Surprisingly, Amsoil calls for there 5w30 synchromesh manual transmission fluid. I was expecting the universal atf to be the proper fluid. What is the story behind all this? My owner's manual says a fluid change is not necessary (it was needed)but to use the mopar only fluid and it listed the mopar part #. The synchromesh is brown in color and i would hope it is of a high quality.

I'm guessing it's an nv3500, if so I'd recommend Royal Purple synchromax or Redline MTL. I've heard from several people that Redline provides better shift quality and in my nv3500 the RP gave a huge improvement over the mopar stuff. Get whichever is cheaper.
