This is the first time Amsoil has been in the Civic. I think it did pretty good, compared to the previous 10k run with Mobil 1 EP 5w30.

Engine oil capacity:
4.0 quarts

Oil filter:
Amsoil Ea15k13

Air filter:
NAPA Gold OEM replacement (10k old at the start of this OCI)

Make up oil added: 1/4 quart at 7k just to top it off before a long trip.

USE: 50/50 Highway/city - with plenty of short trips (10 miles max)

Drove 3,000 miles within 2 weeks prior to this sample.

~Refilled with the same package for a second run. (i expect to see better results with a better concentration of SSO)

Does anyone else think the TAN is a bit high? (meaning Acidic.) In one of my other reports, Blackstone commented that a TAN of 2.2 was showing acidity present. ?????

Your driving conditions is easy on oil, you can extend your OCI to 15k/6mo with either Amsoil or M1 EP, and go with xW20 to get better MPG.

I COULD extend but i feel like i'm getting pretty good value out of the oil after 10k.

I want to maintain excellent engine operation while pushing the oil to a nice, comfortable, OCI.

I'll extend a bit as per B_S's suggestion and see how the oil looks but i'm pretty comfortable with 10k OCIs with this car at this particular operation conditions. (plenty of long road trips)

Looks good; I am surprised to see the Zinc so low...

Moly is almost non-existant in SSO, so what's there is from the last oil.

Hard to say without VOA TAN number. In a vacuum you tend to get nervous when TAN and TBN cross over, but you're showing absolutely no signs of etching. We've also got B-S's TBN protocol that reads a couple of ticks lower for TBN than others..but I'm unsure if there is any other TAN protocol for them to use.

Doesn't this engine spec 10k with common aisle swill?

No Gary, the maintenance light came on @ 7,200 miles.

The oil light usually comes on @ 6-7k for me, with the driving conditions the civic sees.

If it wasn't for me using it for work trips, it would be all city driving and i'm sure the intervals would be a bit shorter.

I ran this oil -1,700 miles past 0% oil life left.

Nice report, have you ever used ASM in this engine? I'd love to see a side by side of the two oils.

+2. 10k, and single digit wear on all oils. Impressive.

no i haven't tried the ASM 0w20 yet. Actually, now that you mention it, that's exactly what i should have used after running the SSO.

Oh well, i'll run the second fill of SSO to 10k AND THEN try the ASM. Come back in oh... a year or so for another look.

Yep, its exactly the results i was waiting for, although i expected to see the SSO in slightly better shape then the M1, since its rated for 25-35k but overall, i'm satisfied.

Will try ASM 0w20 next to compare and see how much better MPGs i can squeeze outta the ol' civic.

Is there no VOA posted on this board on SSO?

Sure there is:

Sounds good I'd love to see the side by side since the SSO and ASM are Amsoil's two best oils.

in that case, i'd expect the ASM to perform the same, just have less viscosity.

I guess we'll know in about a year.
