+2. 10k, and single digit wear on all oils. Impressive.

+3. The Amsoil and M1 EP appear to be equals in the slip and slide department. If you wanted, 15K OCI with either oil would be fine in your case.

Looks good. $20 UOA's. Don't read too much into them.

The new Skeptic.

First BITOG brought you The Critic. Now your get The Skeptic.

Working my way up there...

You're in a fairly hot climate. Personally, I'd only run ASM 0w-20 during a winter interval, and stick with SSO otherwise. That's just me. I do feel similar on finding a comfortable OCI to cap, since I don't want to pay extra for UOA's when I know changing the oil is where my money is better spent after 10K mile intervals(already saving money).

I full agree with you, Slim. I too will take a backseat to UOA once i find a comfortable OCI.

I also agree on the ASM for winter lube, to get the juices flowing nicely during cold temps.

No change of heart. Good UOA. Good engine. $20-$30 UOA's. Not bad for finding coolant ingress. Nothing against Blk Stne.

-first sentence, first post, thanks for playing.

You should expect much better results if the driving/climate remains the same for your next UOA. I love the 'increase' in iron comment from [censored]...1ppm is within variance so it should be concluded that no changes were present regarding wear metals.

There's a man who learned his stuff.

I too didn't think too much of the so called "increase" either.

I take easy UOA with a grain of salt... a big one.

To me, both oils performed the same @ 10k.

Hard to say without VOA TAN number. In a vacuum you tend to get nervous when TAN and TBN cross over, but you're showing absolutely no signs of etching. We've also got B-S's TBN protocol that reads a couple of ticks lower for TBN than others..but I'm unsure if there is any other TAN protocol for them to use.

Is there no VOA posted on this board on SSO?

Surely so ..but with TAN?? That's the figure in question. We know B-S has a compressed TBN number.

..and your usage is probably more accurately measured in terms of fuel consumption. Your urban driving makes an odometer a lousy measure of usage (and YES, I see you have a maintenance minder there are flaming Ya-hoos here who will say "only 10k?" and think that they're intelligent).

Either way ..good show for it.

^They don't. The standard analysis is $25 + $10 for TBN + $10 for TAN + $24 for particle count.

So roughly $55 for the report shown in this thread.

^Thank you for the advice but 0% on the OLM would only be 8k OCIs.

The car does see a LOT of highway use and i can easily rack up 10k miles in under 6 months. Since the UOA report shows good results, i see no reason why i can't keep extending my OCIs considering the high quality oil i'm using.

I think 15k with M1 EP is possible, with a little top off somewhere along the road to add a little additive.

Exactly, I feel pretty comfortable going to 12k now after 2 solid reports showing excellent results after 10k with 2 oils designed for extended drains.

12k is pretty much double the factory OCI in my 07 Civic (depends on the driving conditions, since mostly city driving will result in the maintenance light coming on around 5-6k)

I've also consider backing off the extended drains and staying with 10k but trying out different oils in the process, just for kicks and giggles.

I'm interested in seeing Amsoil XL @ 10k and Pennzoil Platium just for comparison purposes.

If it did, it got taken away with the 30 weight.

either way, i'm sure there are very tiny differences in MPG with a 0w20 vs 5w20 in an engine originally designed for 5w20
