Yep, it's simply a somewhat heavier than necessary oil.

Thanks. I think I'll keep my routine of ASM for summer and TGMO or Mazda for winter. Of course I do have the Mitsu (SM) I have to use as well at some point lol.

Switching oils from season to season is what we did in the 60s. There is no benefit for your engine to do this now. If the Toyo 0-20 is suitable for your engine in the winter then it's the oil you should use year round. I use Mobil 1 0w20 year round here in Illinois and we see a lot of very hot temps here all summer long.

Thanks but, to each his own. I guess if ASM is good enough in the summer, it's good enough in the winter too also. I just like this routine, and it's not hurting anything but my wallet..albeit, only like $12 more.

Why are the NOACK numbers from Pennzoil's product data sheet so much higher than the numbers everyone is referring to: http://www.pennzoil.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/PENNZOILULTRAFullSyntheticMotorOil.pdf

I don't see anything more current listed on their website i.e. SN rated Ultra.

That sheet you linked to is from 2010, newer ones are 2012.

What icruse said^^^. That is the TDS for SM formula.

The SN NOACK has been verified by PQIA HERE (for 5w30).

Something I also noticed is the NOACK of ATM is lower the ACD which is a straight 30wt with no VI.

Something I also noticed is the NOACK of ATM is lower the ACD which is a straight 30wt with no VI.

I suspect that ATM uses a better quality base stock, it also has a higher VI. I'm sure it's likely a straight 30wt oil as well.

That said I don't really see the point of the ATM 10w30 over the ASL 5w30 or even AZO 0w30 for that matter unless you need a heavier 30wt oil. AZO is proven to be very shear stable and the 7.6% NOACK is still better than many 40wts.
NOACK has no affect on performance even as high as 14% unless it is affecting oil consumption.

Have been using Amsoil's excellent 0w30 (SSO / AZO) in all my vehicles for years with no issues.

Vehicles have never used discernable oil between LOF changes, so I've never worried about NOACK - except as one of the indicators on the quality of the basestock (for educational purposes).
