I’m considering buying a case of 0W-30 SS to have as backup. It would be over a years worth for my Jeep.I don't know if it's worth stocking up on Amsoil 0w-40 Signature Series now or wait a couple months due to the whole GTL shortage craze.

Is that all??? I'm a lightweight on BITIOG only having five 12-quart cases of HPL and one vehicle. This should last about 5 years, which is the shelf-life based on a conversation with HPL.I’m considering buying a case of 0W-30 SS to have as backup. It would be over a years worth for my Jeep.
Yeah I think that forums don't have the same issues as "social media." I put them in a different category. They’re usually worth whatever “trouble” there is.
God forbid I try searching for information! What a novel concept! Someone should invent social media where a bunch of people can share their thoughts in an easily indexable, searchable manner!Yeah I think that forums don't have the same issues as "social media." I put them in a different category.
Speculate all we want, but we can hold Valvoline Restore and Protect in our hands and send off samples to various labs... and we consumers still don't know what's really in it.All I see on forums and social media is that no one knows what the changes actually are, but many people are all hep/can't wait like kids at Christmas in anticipation of this unknown elixir or stocking up on the old formula in fear the new one won't be any good.
Can you post a photo? I don't think SS has ever had API approval. There are too many limits on the formulation, and AMSOIL formulates their best oil possible in the SS line, which they can't do under the API constraints. My most recent shipment from a few days ago of SS 5W-30 is labeled API SP.
I was pleased to get this formulation as I was using it to supplement leftovers from a previous shipment.
I am curious if the current and upcoming formulations are compatible if blended together.
I should have been more specific, my apologies. Can you post a photo? I don't think SS has ever had API approval. There are too many limits on the formulation, and AMSOIL formulates their best oil possible in the SS line, which they can't do under the API constraints.
It will most certainly be compatible with the new formulation. Will have a similar additive pack (obviously I don't have any real knowledge of the new formulation but one must assume it will be similar enough it could be mixed. I imagine it will be an iterative reformulation).I should have been more specific, my apologies.
"Use in applications that require any of the following specifications: API SP..."

But that would be EVOLUTIONARY!It will most certainly be compatible with the new formulation. I've not seen a specific announcement. I looked just now and didn't see anything new. People have asked in the magazines and probably to CS.@Pablo any more talk about 5 quart jugs?
The way I figure it, if it does come out I’ll just buy more.Welp, I cavedand bought ahead for 2027 when I’m back running AMSOIL Signature Series.
Whats going to happen; if anything, to the SS reformulation coming out soon, due to the forthcoming shortage ( if the formulation would need to adjust again due to base stock supply) and what (most importantly to me) the costs will be moving forward as well?
Therefore, I see no value in waiting until later this year to buy given the uncertainty.
This is the way.The way I figure it, if it does come out I’ll just buy more.
