Has anyone had a chance to use and evaluate Amsoils new Severe Gear? If so, what did you use it in and what do you think about it? Good? Bad? Indifferent?

The marketing sounds good, but I hate to be the first to try something. But...since both my Jeeps are about due for a change, I might give it a shot.

Will it be safe to mix it with the S2K gear lubes? There is a diff in viscosity, isn't there?

Pablo - Would it be possibe to find out how "slippery" this stuff is? Subaru synchros prefer friction and the S2K is known to be too slick. People (myself included) usually have better results with the AGR.

I have a 2004 Subaru WRX and just switched to the new AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-90 and it is awesome. At first I thought I couldn't get my car in gear and then I realized it was already in - it just went in to gear so easy that I could not even feel it engage. I have tried numerous other oils looking for "the one" that would help make it shift better and the Sever Gear from AMSOIL is "the one." I had tried various RedLine oils, other AMSOIL variations as well as Royal Purple. The new Severe Gear from AMSOIL is leaps and bounds better than the others, at least in my Subaru:)

From what a couple of my friends who attended the AMSOIL Direct Jobber Convention in San Antonio have told me....is that a lot of the Nas Car guys have been using/testing the new Severe Gear .....namely Jr. # 8.

Well, my 2000 Wrangler now has SVO front and rear, and my 1996 Cherokee has SVO in the rear and SVG in the front (per Amsoil and owners manual recommendations). So far I'm very happy with it based on a few hundred miles.

It'll be interesting to see what it will do over the long term.

I actually changed my front and rear (anti-slip) axle on my 02 Envoy with the new Amsoil Extreme Pressure Severe Gear lube. Before the oil change, I was having my rear axle "rumble" upon takeoff (the original fluid and anti slip additives were spent and my clutches were "angry" if you will).
I noticed the difference immediately. No more rumbles, vibrations, noises. Glad I came on here and read a different post about it

Saved me alot of $$$ (the dealer wanted $300+ to change front and rear axle fluids!) I only paid $7.20 x 3qts=$21.60 total. I got it at "dealer price". Definately recommended.

I just put the Severe Gear 75W-90 in both differentials of the Wife's Grand Cherokee this morning so we'll see how it works. The old oil wasn't as dirty as I expected. I was very glad I got the Amsoil hand pump though..made putting in the new oil a snap!

If it's similar(or better!) than the series 2000 Amsoil, then it should be perfect. Amsoil in Toyota trucks is the best and I've tried neary everything (RL, RL-50/50 mixed, RP, M1).

Did you pull the cover off and clean out the metal in the rear diff or just swap fluid?

I have an '04 Avalanche and am looking for an alternative to the GM fluid.

Thanx

Bob W.

Was this in a manual transmission?

Well on my rear axle a sway bar is in the way. I just drained it (my plug is magnetic and had a fair amount of metal moosh on it) I let it drain for about 30 mins and then refilled. Same with the front.
