I read a bunch on this gear oil the last time I did the t-case and dif in our Mazda. And I'm going to do those fluids again this spring so I'm back to see if there's any new conclusive info.

It's $40 a quart from the dealer. And its no cheaper online.

Does anyone know what gear oil this actually is, and if I can use an amsoil, or redline, or anything else that isn't ridiculously priced?

It's a GL4 juice, right? Just get a GL4 or GL4+ gear oil and don't shy away from 75W-90. I think SG1 is 75W-85.
Oh youre right it is 75w-85, edited my title thanks. And yea I figured a GL4+ 75w-90 would be fine based on my research.

I have a 5L jug of 75w90 GL5 already, is that fine? Or best to not mess with the GL5 additives in the transfer case?

I've drained the FF in the differential and transfer case on our 2021 CX-30 and refilled them with Royal Purple 75w90. The RP claims to be good for both GL4 and GL5 (I assume they mean it's 'yellow metal safe'.) The RP seems to be working fine.

Motul 80w90 mineral in my 18 rogue. Huge difference in sound and smoothness over amsoil severe gear 80-90. Cold weather, maybe isn’t as good and I haven’t drained it yet to see how it looks. Although this stuff looks like ground metal when new, so I doubt I’ll learn anything. Schaefer’s 75-90 is on deck. Most of these “wanna be” suvs hold so little fluid, I found you can’t change it to often.
