Which is a better transmission fluid. I have been using m1 and I have had no problems with it, however I have been hearing more and more great things here and elseware about amsoil ATF (the universal type I guess) Please give me your input. Thanks

I've used the Amsoil ATF in my car and it smoothened out my shifts. However, there is yet another price increase from Amsoil due to crude oil prices, this takes place July 1, 2006. If cost isn't an issue, I believe it's about $9 retail ($8.65) and about $7 with preferred customer ($6.60)for now. Only time I've seen Mobil 1 was at Auto Zone and it was about the same price as Amsoil's ATF at the preferred customer price.

There are good on both sides, if price isn't a major issue, I would go for Amsoil. Have not heard any bad about the Mobil 1 ATF though. Since you're already using a synthetic ATF, you may not notice too much of a difference with the Amsoil.

How often do you plan to drain/flush the system?

Advance Auto sells M1 ATF for $5.93 compared to NAPA selling Amsoil for $10. I switched to M1 and have noticed no difference in shift quality. Both are excellent fluids and will serve you well. I have never seen an explanation of the difference between the two. Amsoil products, at least at the retail level, tend to be a few bucks more than their competion.

Both will mix fine with each other if you're not flushing the system.

Well, the Amsoil product meets more OEM specifications like Toyota Type T-IV. However for Dexron/Mercon applications, the Mobil 1 ATF is more cost effective and it's a high quality product.

Either will work fine here....

I'd just stick with the M1 since you already use it, its cheaper.
Maybe consider an external filter if you do not have one.

I use Amsoil in my Civic and it's perfect after 53k. You can save a bit of money by purchasing their 2.5 gallon container. It helps me because Honda recommends 3 drain/fill/drive/drain/fill's to change it out.

With your advice, and the fact that I have used m1 for the last couple changes, I decided to stay with m1. I picked up 7 qts today. Thanks for your help

Everything has to come from somewhere, and the basic materials for most synthetic oils still comes from crude. They are then run through chemical processes to synthesize exactly the material they are trying to make.
