Anybody use this?

It says it becomes non-sticky after awhile and forms a protective layer, which isn't like what I normally use, Krown.

I was thinking of giving it a shot on the bottom of the BMW, which I have not been able to bring myself to get sprayed, because I don't want holes in it.

I do. I sprayed it on a few fasteners on my saab which had shown some corrosion.

It continued underneath.

Other places where Ive sprayed it have been perfect.

It does form a waxy coating, not an oily one. It smells strong. Eastwood HD anti rust is very similar. As is Waxoyl.

I took my saab to a krown up in ontario, and the holes were so few and far between that I dont even notice them.

The argument against the waxy stuff is that though it "self heals", when it dries out, it can be prone to letting moisture underneath and creating an environment more conducive to rusting.

I have some pictures of the waxoyl on the underside of my 300CD that Ill try to put up tomorrow.

Id personally buy krown and spray it on yourself without making holes (wear a mask!) versus the heavy wax stuff, I think.

Honestly, I would have a pro do a full underside of a fine automobile.

For sure HD Metal Protectant won't stop existing rust. It's best for medium size areas (like a portion of a wheel well, chains, stored steel tools and such.) I've sprayed a shovel that I just left outside and it didn't rust a bit.

Amsoil HD MP

Well luckily I'm not trying to stop existing rust, lol

Was just thinking of exposed areas. But I may just get Krown to do a non-invasive (no holes) spray of the car if they are willing.......

I love the HD Metal protector. I use it on my ice auger and it has held up for two seasons of ice fishing and hundreds of holes. The cutting edge of the blades has worn off obviously but the auger itself is still protected. It also seems to prevent ice build up. Kano has a similar product, Weatherpruf which is very similar.

Another option is Fluid Film available at John Deere dealers here in the states. Not sure about Canada. I have used Rust Check as we have one available here in No. Indiana.

Fluid film is not like HD metal protector. It stays more fluid. Nor is corrosionX, which is more like Krown.

But is Fluid Film not similar to Krown and Rust Check? However I believe F/F is heavier/thicker than the other two, and of course it never dries out.

I know its not the same as HD protector. HD Protector is similar to the waxy stuff Z Bart uses inside panels, not what they use on the undercarriage.

FF is MUCH thicker than Krown and Carwell. I know that for certain as I own all of them. Both the thick and thin Krown/Carwell products.

FF does make solvent thinned versions that may be the same as Krown, but FF doesnt recommend them for automotive applications for a number of reasons (UV degradation being one, IIRC).

Yes it is much thicker, I'd guess about like gear oil.

I have a gal. of Fluid Film and am thicking of thinning it with some minerial spirits so as to be able to use a garden sprayer to spray the inside of rocker panels and doors with it.

ill see if I can pull up their guidance on thinning it. I think that is a great idea.

Off the top of my head, I think they said not to thin and to use a paint sprayer...

When you (and the other Canucks on here) were first speaking of that Krown treatment, the first thing I thought of was if it was similar to Amsoil's HD MP.

I use it on my coilover collars/adjusters/sleeves, and Roto-Joints, before the winter to try and stave off the salt damage/corrosion/'welding' caused from our DOTs butchering us with too much of the crystalline stuff.

Yes, it IS quite viscous/tenacious, and does have a funky odor, but it DOES serve it's purpose!

OK, I just ordered a can of each of the Amsoil metal protectors, will try 'em out next week when they show up. Also got some ATF and MP grease.

Cans showed up today along with my ATF and grease, as well as some XL 5w20 for my buddy's Focus

Will try this out and post back.

So the non HD is really like WD40 in consistency. It is a lot thinner than even Krown. The HD comes out perhaps a bit thicker than Krown, but thinner than white lithium grease. And it seems to thicken very quickly after contacting the surface you've sprayed.

I did the entire trailer hitch assembly, the hinges and rear frame rails of the Expedition with it. Then all the hinges, door handles...etc of the BMW's. We'll see how it looks in a month.
