Is this stuff good? Great? As promised - up to 25,000 miles with their oil? Is it any better than other oils (sythentic, blend, or conventional)? Their stats say it is, but can those be trusted?

The reason I ask is because I am considering switching to their oil for both my 1994 Olds Custlass Supreme (3.1 L - 173,000 miles) and my 1999 Chevy Suburban (5.7 L - 102,000 miles). Thoughts? Suggestions?

Just as good as Mobil-1, but not better or worse, IMHO.

Can't say anything about the 5.7L engine, but if you can be assured that you are not having coolant-ingress problems in the 3.1L, it is an ideal engine to run 25k miles between changes.

i can not say that it is as good as mobile one. mobile one burns in my car a lot more. I am not saying mobile 1 sucks. i think amsoil is the best stuff out there. sure it cost an arm and a leg. but i like to spoil my baby (car).
i use 0-30 series 2000k amsoil. honestly if you buy from the right people, it cost the same as buying mobile 2. i.e. gallon of mobile one at wallmart is 25 bucks. gallon of amsoil is 26 bucks. dollar more, for great stuff. u do the math

oh i jsut read yoru post. i would only recommend switching to this oil if you have use synthetic on your car for a while since it is so old. i hear rumors that bad things can happen to it. why would u want to switch? if you have been using mobile 1 without any problems for a while. than switch, its worth it, i feel that my car is smoother etc. but i fyou have only been using conventional oil, i do not recommend it.

Amsoil is very good oil and seems to work as advertised. I use the ATM 10W30 in my cars and the AMF and recently the MCF 10W40 in my bike. I don't run it out to 25K but do run it for a year which adds up to about 12K in my car that gets drove the most and 6K or so on my bike.

Yes KC Strip

Amsoil does what it says. I run the 0w-30 in my 2004 GMC Canyon. I went from 17.6 to 20 average MPG. I change my SDF Filter at 6 months and add the replacement oil then change oil and filter at 1 year. Go here and see what they recommend Application Guide I believe 0W-30 (TSOQT) would be the recommend along with EaO29 for the Olds and a EaO24 oil filter on the Suburban. Or you could use the 5w30 to start and then go to the 0W-30 in a year. Make sure you get a can of Engine Flush (AEFCN) also I would recommend using the P.I. Performance Improver Gasoline Additive (APIBF) to keep the injectors clean and help improve the gas mileage. If you have any questions I will be Glad to Help.

Amsoil recommends performing a Used Oil Analysis (UOA) between 2000 and 7500 miles,
you should have a UOA done to confirm your engine does not have any issues, Silicon, etc..

KC Strip...correct me if I am wrong but it does not appear that you put 25K miles/yr on a vehicle so why spend the additional money ? Just curious. Amsoil is fine oil but sounds a little like overkill in your case.

I think those vehicles have just to many miles on them to go with the top line synthetic. IMO 75,000 miles is the break point.

Use the XL versions (up to 7500+ miles OCI) on high mileage engines like this. Going 25,000 miles on a high mileage engine is foolish IMO. You may have many engine deposits in there and the synthetic is going to start disolving them qucikly, which will reduce the longevity of the oil fast.

I would stay away from engine flushes and do a cleaning with Auto-RX instead. Maybe two of them for each vehicle, depending on how you've maintained them.

Go here: http://www.auto-rx.com

Use the Coupon Code of "ARXFQ" when ordering. Sweet spot in pricing is four bottles. Yes, it's expensive, but the results will be worth it.

Be sure to use dino oil for both the clean and rinse cycles, and follow the directions exactly.

No interest on my part, just want you to get the most benefit of switching to a synthetic with your high-mileage vehicles.

Agrees with IslaVistaMan:-->100%.
Also the Amsoil-->ASL & ATM will work well for U as well... 10W-30->Summer 5w30->Winter if U change it twice a yr...they can go easy 6 months between changes.

Maybe even run-->10W-30 yr round.
I have a GMC 88 3/4 ton with right at 220K miles on... And it really likes the AFL-5W-40 Euro.
The motor uses about 1/4 qt of oil between 6month oil changes. It used about 1/2 qt with the ATM-10W-30. I now use the 5W-40 yr round, here in Oklahoma.

Great stuff everyone - thanks! For what it's worth, I've had the Olds (3.1 L) since 64,500 miles and the Suburban (5.7 L) since 34,200 miles. I'm averaging 25,000 per year on the Suburban, but roughly 13,000 on the Olds. Does that make a difference on either?

Also, I've been running Castrol Syntec Blend in the Suburban, but only Castrol GTX in the Olds. Would a switch benefit either vehicle?

There was one suggestion for having the oil analyzed - how would I go about doing that? Does the engine flush make that big of a difference? Anyone with personal experience on that issue? It may seem like I'm overcautious (and I may be). But I just don't want to do anything I'll regret later.

For what my 2 cents of worth,Amsoil is easyly one of the best out there,and I mite add better than Mobil 1,which in its self is good,,there is many really good engine lubes as,the application can decide,,,myself,if you want to use Amsoil,the XL 7500 (new stuff) and Amsoils new line of filters,,change every 6 mo. and you will be very fine.....BL

I used to use M1. Now run Amsoil S2K 0w30 in my 2002 Yukon XL 5.3l. Smooooooooth! Its been in 10,000 miles with good UOA's. Will easily make the one year interval which is next April.
