Amsoil EAO20 vs EAO13 - What's different?

I did a search here and a search at Amsoil, but I'm still stumped.

Starting at about 2003, amsoil lists some Honda's moving from EAO20 to EAO13. I couldn't figure out why.

Some were really puzzling, for example, I'm pretty sure Honda specs the same filter for the 2002 Ody as the 2003 Ody. I have the Honda shop manual and they should be the same.

In the Amsoil filter guide (like 900 pages), it shows the 2002 using EAO20 and 2003 using EAO13

I have to admit, I didn't read 900+ pages, I could have missed something.

Anyone know?? Oversized?? Bypass pressure different??

EaO20 is shorter and fatter. Base gasket and thread is same.

& the EAO13 has a lower by-pass valve rating. 8-11 versus 11-17.

Honda/Toyota/Mazda/Nissan, etc have standardized around smaller filters for applications where space is an issue and to make the filters in tight locations easier to change. A smaller,horizontally located filter also makes less of an oily mess when you remove it in the driveway on your wifes new pavers.

(as a side note, with the rear seat folded down the Outback wagon makes a comfy bed in mild weather)

Older Subes (the 2.5L, non-turbo engine) used to call for the EAO-20 and now all these engines call for the EAO-12 as does their auto transmission. I have the EAO-20 on my '06 Outback (it is a tight squeeze around the exhaust pipes) and it's fine.

I wonder if the EA099 will fit the OB1315 mount

Geez, could the bigger filters remotely mounted completely negate the need for bypass filters and seriously increase OCI's

Where are the enviro-lobbyists? They need to picket to make EA0's standard on all vehicles to save the world.

Competition beware. Amsoil actually has surprised me with a bunch of well timed releases of excellent fluids and filtration.

I was thinking on the high side for psi. I'd like to avoid bypass.

I've had a FRAM clicker before, who knows if it ever filtered.

The EAO36 has me interested for oversize.

I guess you never know until you cutt'm open.

Speaking of cutting - these filters are thick. Its going to be a long day, the day I try to open one. I'm sure they've never had trouble passing the burst test.

I have one in hand. I'll be running it after my ARXing is done on my stock Ranger. Probably for 2 or 3 OCI. Nice BIG filter...
