Hi Everyone:

I have this posted in the PCMO Engine oil thread for another reason, but thought I would post it here, as it is a filter that I cut open.

It has a nice silicone anti-drain back, metal spring, thick gasket and metal end caps. the synthetic glass media is also very stiff even though it is soaked.

I have cut many EAO's open with 24-27k on them and they all look just like this-even pleat spacing and still looking good. I've decided to use these exclusively once I use up my current stash of other stuff. Some lesser filters can look mighty scary with only a few thousand miles on them when you open 'em up...

I know... When I first joined BITOG I started cutting open filters and started noticing how poorly made they were, so I kept looking for better and better, then I found Amsoil and stayed with them.

This one in the picture above only has 4K KM (2500 Miles), because it was used in an ARX cleaning phase.

But I would be confident enough to run it for 20,000KM (12,000 miles) without hesitation!

You used an Amsoil EAO oil filter for an Auto-Rx cleaning phase?

Yes... I know it is expensive but I wanted to see how it did with filtering out debris that ARX is removing. I have a fresh one on there now to catch the stuff from the rinse cycle...

It's a hobby so the extra $$$ doesn't bother me.

Why not? Fine filtration is always good.

Your oil filter shouldn't filter out too much, if any, debris during the "clean" cycle. It's the "rinse" cycle that will load up your filter. At least that's my understanding of Frank's "wunder-fluid."

You're telling me! I'm working on my instrument rating right now in a Cirrus SR-20....averaging about $330 per flight!

Dunno... I have always looked after it really well, as posted in my other thread. Very low OCI with quality synthetic oils like Mobil-1, Amsoil and Wix/EAO filters...

Will be interesting to see after I cut open the rinse cycle filter.

Can't wait to see that.

That engine must be really poorly designed. After all, you fed it only AMSOIL, performed short OCIs, and you did mostly highway driving. Or maybe you got fake AMSOIL. I'd love to hear what Pablo has to say about the mess that AMSOIL left behind.

PS: Are you sure you got an air filter in there? Is the PCV valve working? Are the PCV breather hoses connected (properly) or maybe clogged? Did you maybe top off with frappuchino by accident?

I think it may have been from the Mobil use in the past, or just an accumulation of insolubles.

Terry mentioned on my last UOA that the insolubles were high for the mileage on the oil (10K KM) and suggested that I switch to a different air-filter instead of using the OEM.

I'm doing the ARX Clean/Rinse then will run PP for a couple short intervals and send one in for an analysis and see what it yields.

If the Insolubles are still high then I will switch air filters...

These engines are very reliable, last a long time and don't have any reported "Sludging" issues as with other makes/models.
