This is the most recent filter from my Expedition, removed from the vehicle on December 26th, 2012. It was replaced with another EaO11.

Oil used was AZO 0w30.

Looks good. If I had to nitpick I guess the pleat spacing could have been better but it looks like it held up perfectly. I run these on my Expedition from time to time.

Call me crazy but I swear the filter design for these engines has something to do with it. I've cut open a MC-FL820S that looked the same. Look at the Mobil 1 filter he cut open in the other thread. They all seem to do the same thing.

Yup

I've noticed that with basically all the filters from this truck. I think the ONLY exception was the Fleetguard I ran. But I got start-up noise with those so I stopped using them.

I remember the Wix filters I ran last year seemed to have no start-up noise but I didn't cut them open. It was before I found BITOG! Maybe I'll get another to run next OCI and cut it open when I'm done to see if it does the same thing.

Is it bad to have inconsistent pleats of the media as long as it's not compromised and still attached top to bottom? If something gets thru the first time it's not going to get pressed into the same spot again will it?

No, it isn't bad. I think the idea is that more uniform pleats show greater consistency in construction but that doesn't translate to the filter actually working any better.

So if the filter is there to remove debris from the oil and the spacing shown makes no difference. Apart from the two posters sounding like a little girl moaning about nothing what actual difference does the pleat spacing make to the filter being fit for use.

None at all, so why complain about it? I think the two "nitpicking" posters need to get out more.

eddie!

The pleats aren't twisted at all, just the spacing varies a bit when following it around the centre tube. And it certainly isn't moving, I had a hard time picking the media away from the wire backing to look at.

Uneven pleat spacing is of little or no consequence, unless you have Fram derangement syndrome and are looking for any reason to hate. This is a top notch filter that did fine.

Would've like to see a pic of the bypass valve (base end).

How many miles on this oil/filter?

Overkill... did you lay those oily parts on top of a computer casing or scanner lid?

After I get thru with my oily observations, I wash them off in my solvent tak (letting the element soak in solvent for a day or so) so I can store the autopsied filters for later perusal without droolage.

Jim:

Mileage is in the thread title

16,174Km.

Bypass valve is the spring/clicker style if that helps? I've seen so many of them with filters from this vehicle, I didn't bother grabbing a pic. The Mobil filter I posted also had the same style.

Yes, the parts on the side of a computer case, LOL. I wanted a white background, and that provided it.

Looks fine thats why I'm starting to use NAPA Platinums and running them for 2 OCI,they are more then capable.

but OK be a trooper get your fingers dirty and pull the media apart with pics!
