I see a 100% intact internal cartridge. How would I see a mesh backing?

"wire backed full synthetic media"

I found out later that I have to remove the media to see the mesh, I thought it was on the outside and would be visible in my pictures.

I'm going to cut up the used one I took off almost a week ago.

I just bought a batch of filters. Including some EaO20's. Maybe I can pay someone to blow in them. Also I bought some Mann, including the (near) equivalent Mann size - those should be blow tested as well.

Ea20, made by Wix - try a Wix and see if you get the same effect.

You need to suck through the center hole and compare flow restrictions on the EAO and the OEM. If one is more restrictive than the other than you get more lifter noise at start up due to the oil not flowing fast enough.

Is this the same vehicle we were discussing noise on earlier and I suggested changing the filter to a different brand?

No that was a friends Sonata that suffered from lift-tick for up to 15 minutes.

Mine is a couple of seconds on start-up with the EAO.

Yeah I know it wasn't my suggestion I told him to get another filter and those were what I was given.

Not on this vehicle but on my Santa Fe I have. I like the OEM better.

In this thread what filter was your vehicle using for a filter since it was "ticking" for 15 minutes?

Was it the filter or the oil?

Bill

The last Amsoil filter I put on my truck and my girlfriend's Grand Prix both say made in Mexico. Ea029 on hers and Ea032 on my Silverado. Wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Bill,

In this thread I had lifter tick mildly for 1-2 seconds on start-up with the EAO filters because the ADBV wasn't working properly. I cured this with a Hyundai OEM filter. I originally thought it was the oil.

My engine will still tick in the winter regardless of oil/filter as it always does and it lasts about 15-30 seconds.

On my friends car (Sonata with the same engine) in the other thread his ticking was for 15 minutes on start-up regardless of oil choice (he usually runs synthetic). It appears it has been fixed with a new filter (Hyundai OEM) and the 5w40 Amsoil synthetic. I think his oil pump is a bit worn because I have 10psi more pressure than him on average and my engine has a ton more miles than his.

Then I'm confused (again)

What oil and filter? I'm just trying to get around an engine that ticks for 15 minutes. Since it was your vehicle do you remember what the oil/filter was? (you have prob run so many different combos)

Bill

Conventional oil would cause lifter ticking in the winter for 15 minutes in my engine and in most 2.7's and Hyundai says it's normal and will not damage the engine if it goes away once warmed up, which it does.

The oil was Quaker State Green Bottle 5w20 or 5w30 (Can't remember) and the filters at that time I tried were Hyundai OEM, WIX, and a Canadian Tire branded filter. (Could have been Quaker State style filter at that time now they are Champion labs I think)

I was talking about synthetic in this thread causing it on start-up for a few seconds in the summer and 15-30 seconds in the winter.

I just wanted to check with the other BITOG-er's (which have chimed in already) about this filter in case I wasn't the only one.
