Amsoil EaO-13 Filter in 2004 Honda Odyssey

The other day I changed the oil on our newly acquired 2004 Honda Odyssey to Amsoil 0W-20. According to the Amsoil website, it requires the EaO-13 filter. When I went to change the filter, I discovered that the old filter (VO-39 from Valvoline) was quite a bit larger in outside diameter than the EaO-13 filter with which I replaced it. Everything seems to work fine so far, but I'm a little concerned about the difference in size. There's quite a bit of overhang of the filter flange over the filter (probably close to 1/2-inch radially).

Have any of you with that generation of Odyssey noted any concerns with this filter? Any leaks show up later? Any concerns with the size differential? I know Amsoil uses nanofiber technology, but still...

That is the correct filter. When we had an Odyssey that is the filter I used. Chances are that whoever put the Valvoline filter on there used the wrong filter. Go buy a Honda filter from the dealer and check out how small it is. But I see you have two Honda's so you probably already know that.

Yes, my Ridgeline uses the same filter but it seems to have a somewhat smaller flange facing than the '04 Odyssey. It also has a 3.5 L engine but some of the details are different from the Ody's. It's amazing that an engine of that size uses such a small oil filter! It's a lot smaller than the one in my Saturn!

I see that Amsoil also calls out a Wix filter for this vehicle; maybe I'll get one of those and compare it.

The Odyssey may not use that small of a filter in all markets. It might be a US thing.

Here's all the filters in that thread that Donaldson carries. I tend to think that they're more global on the east Asian end of things ..but that could just be my imagination. Most fall into a 2.6x O.D. ..a few in the 3.xx ..and some bigger.
